2001 Pontiac Montana LX

Summary:

Maintenance nightmare and GM leaves you hanging

Faults:

Intake blown at 85,000

Windshield wiper motor jams

Headlights fill with water

AC not working

Gas Gauge broke

The list goes on and on.

General Comments:

The van in nice looking and has a lot of bells and whistles, but don't be fooled! The van is a nightmare with electrical and mechanical problems. Called GM and they said sorry for your problems out of warranty. I even offered to share the cost--they were not interested and didn't care. Filed complaint with BB and they called back, but still didn't care. I want to support American auto-maker, but I'll stick with my Nissan with 172,000 miles no problems.

2001 Pontiac Montana EWB 3.4

Summary:

Poor Quality

Faults:

The front ceiling console would leak water when turning a corner. It was determined that the roof rack had not been properly sealed when it was mounted. Covered under warranty.

A/C - A main weld failed - entire system replaced under warranty.

No outside of warranty, looks like it has gone again.

Wiper systems - both front and back systems are a total joke. The front wipers when turned off would go to the full open position and then shut off. Outside of warranty - had to have a new module installed to get them to go back down below the skirt.

Rear wiper - insists on wiping the license plate instead of the window. Have had this inspected and "fixed" numerous times by the dealership. Now outside of warranty I have a really clean license plate.

Power windows - driver door - glass will not go up without assistance. Dealer claims that this is a $500.00 repair as the entire mechanism needs to be replaced.

Sliding door (not powered) - would not close properly for months - turns out that the door seal was all jammed up in the track.

Hood - would not shut - only the safety latch would hold the hood down. Again, outside of warranty - 100's of $ to fix.

Shipped with Generals - these are terrible tires - constant issues with maintaining pressure, soft side walls, not safe at all.

2001 Pontiac Montana

Summary:

Very poor vehicle!

Faults:

Starter went bad.

Intake manifold gaskets leaked.

Wipers stripped.

Rear wiper tore.

Radiator leaked.

Weather stripping falls off.

Poor fuel economy.

General Comments:

Pontiac Montana Vans seem to have tons of problems before 50,000 miles. I hear of transmissions going bad constantly, $3000 plus to fix. Some owners have had transmissions replaced twice before 100,000! BUYERS BEWARE!

2001 Pontiac Montana 3.4 ltr

Summary:

I said I would never buy a van, and I have one and I love it!

Faults:

There was a problem with the started solenoid sticking. The service department lubricated it and there has no longer been any other problems.

General Comments:

As for fuel economy, it is a van not a little four cylinder. We are getting on average about 28mpg. and that is a mix bag of highway and city.

As for room, with 3 small children under 5, there is so much room for the kids and they enjoy not being crammed together.

2001 Pontiac Montana V6

Summary:

Good van overall

Faults:

Coolant leak from intake manifold - this is a common problem for this engine.

Air shock leaking after 2 years.

Brakes require maintenance often to avoid rotor replacement.

General Comments:

I love my van, but GM should fix the gasket problem with this engine and own up to making the reqairs at their cost - not ours.

Such a pitty that such an ugly underpowered vehicle was cast on the face of the earth... such a pitty indeed.

2001 Pontiac Montana

Faults:

The roof of the van was leaking for quire some time. I had it at the dealer on 3 seperate occasions before they finally fixed the problem (I think).

The motor for the rear wiper now needs replaced and I am told it will cost $500.

There is also a ticking noise coming from the engine and I am afraid to find out what that problem is.

General Comments:

This is the last domestic vehicle I will ever own. I also have a Dodge Stratus which is on it's third transmission and has had many other problems.

In my opinion, it is worth it to spend an extra couple of thousand up front on a reliable Japanese product. In the long run, it will be cheaper and there will be much less frustration.
