2006 Pontiac Montana 3.5

Summary:

Cheaply made

Faults:

Transmission slipping after fluid change filter change.

Wheel bearing.

ABS sensor.

CV axle.

General Comments:

The van itself appears cheaply made, however if you have no exhaust leaks, it is not the worst on gas, once you do expect 17mpg... it won't leave you stranded. It is easy for a mechanic or someone that works on cars to fix and get to things except the 3 spark plugs in back...

The reason for the bad review is mainly the suspension being cheap and the transmission (4t65E HD) also being weak. If you get one of these vans with brown or burnt trans fluid, beware before you change the filter and fluid, it may not drive after you do. This same trans is known for failure in higher torque applications such as the Impala SS Grand Prix GTP or GTX, they usually starting clunking into gear slowly and slipping in 1st, watch out for any GM vehicle with this trans.

Oh mine also has a valve train tick when the motor is cold; this started within months of ownership. I have had tons of motors with lifter ticks or piston slap and they don't normally blow unless something on the bottom end let's loose, however a problem like this could scare the inexperienced.

You changed brown burnt fluid (most likely original) in a transmission with over 160 km. What did you think was going to happen?

2006 Pontiac Montana 3.5L V6

Summary:

Best vehicle for the price

Faults:

No issues at all. Just regular maintenance as per GM schedule.

General Comments:

Shows great reliability and solid build.

Very comfortable seats, easy to read dash, easily accessible controls, lots of room for passengers and cargo.

The ride is pleasant, smooth and quiet. Takes corners like a car, not like a big truck. Steering is a bit overassisted but nice.

Brakes are progressive and strong. 225/60R17 tires are a bit expensive but give great ride. Great improvement compared to my last GM vehicle.

Kids like the DVD entertainment system with wireless headphones. 8 speaker audio is simply great, plays rewritable mp3 discs with no issues. Driver Information Center is very useful tool.

2006 Pontiac Montana SV6

Summary:

Nice, Clean and Spacious at an affordable price

Faults:

Nothing Yet.

General Comments:

I got my van about 2 months ago and I love it! It has the DVD System and a Power Slider. My last van was a 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport and I loved that van. When I purchased it I changed a few things on it to make it look unique and it was like no other on the road and my van really stuck out. I had gotten new rims for it, and new mud flaps and that's all it took. It was red so that's really all it took to make it stand out anymore, but you couldn't mistake my van for anybody elses. I haven't done anything to my new van yet because I like it the way it is, but it's been very good to me so far. I don't use it much. I usually drive it to work and back home and there is the oocasional trips to the grocery store and to family's houses, but that's about it. I bought it with 13,800 miles and I only have 15,600 miles on it now. My last van I had bought brand new off the lot and when I sold it to my mom it only had 76,00 miles on it. Keep in mind this was a 1998 and sold in 2006. I'd say that's very low mileage. I hope I love this van as much as my last one, Everything seems to be in a very convenient spot. I'm happy about where the CD player is located in my SV6, in my last van I had to get down to the floor almost just to put a CD in. I have only owned Pontiac's and I don't plan on changing that anytime soon.
