Summary:

Unstoppable, and a fairly nice car

Faults:

The A/C is temperamental, leaks.

Voltage regulator is dying.

Brake pads need replacing.

Transmission fluid replaced.

Headliner sags BADLY.

Radio is terrible.

Jack sucks.

General Comments:

A great first car, though it IS an antique.

Took it on a couple 120 mile round trips, after adding 2700 miles; still won't die.

Seats are VERY comfortable.

Cheap to work on.

No leaks of essential fluids, built like a tank.

I plan to own it for at least 6 years.

LOTS of torque for anything 80s.

These are super cars. I never owned a Parisienne, but had many Chevy Caprices and Olds Delta 88s - the same car essentially. These are probably the best cars ever made for the working man - so cheap to operate and repair, and they hardly ever break. They're also as comfortable and safe as anything on the road, and you can carry a huge amount of people and stuff in them if need be. Running well and driving like you have an egg under your foot, they aren't even all that bad on gas.

Please, just change the oil at least every 5,000 miles on your old machine, keep a close eye on the transmission fluid and other fluids, and you'll easily have the use of it a few more years. I miss these cars terribly (now living in Thailand, where big cars are unheard of).

These cars are tanks, built like a full size truck, yet rides like a Cadillac. They are extremely comfortable, especially the Brougham edition with the pillowtop velour seats. I used to own one, and it was the most comfortable car I ever owned. Hang onto it, the value of these is rising, and their reliability is second to none.

Summary:

The perfect first car

Faults:

The radiator needed to be replaced due to a severe leak.

All of the belts and hoses were replaced due to age.

The idle stove was burnt out and was replaced.

The A/C does not work.

The car has minor scratches and dents.

There is some rusting on lower part of the body.

The undercarriage is well rusted due to age.

General Comments:

This car comfortably seats 6-9 people.

The cabin is very roomy and very comfortable. The interior has not faded, and the dash has not cracked.

All of the gauges function properly.

The winters are no match for this unstoppable beast of a car. I had regular street tires on for the first winter, and no extra weight in the back, and with a little skilled driving, the car handled and drove perfectly.

This car is an absolute beast. The bumpers are strong and hold up to their job. I hit a guard rail at the local gas station, and the only mark left behind was a small black smudge.

The car is highly adaptable to electronics. I know nothing about car electronics, yet I was able to install a CD player, brand new 6"x9" speakers and brand new 5.25" speakers.

The car gets OK gas mileage. What it lacks in fuel economy it makes up for in repairs. Parts are generally available and easy to find. Parts are relatively inexpensive too.

The car has power locks, but manual windows.

Normal items like brakes, batteries, tires, 2 ac compressors.

General Comments:

Low maintenance since new, just tuned up and replaced valve cover gaskets. Original exhaust until a few years ago.

Summary:

The best poor man's Cadillac

Faults:

The usual external parts on the motor always need replacing; that's normal and expected after 100,000 - 150,000 miles.

At 150,000 miles, I replaced the timing chain; it looked like a rubber band. Has run strong after that. Recommend this to everyone.

Cracked and broke one push rod on a trip to west Virgina; still got me there and back.

Another recommendation; have the all rocker bolts tightened down after 150,000 miles. It'll run like a new car.

Trans rebuild at 220,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is the most reliable car to get you from A-B if you just keep up the basic maintenance up on it. I've traveled 146,000 since 1992 with my wife and kids in it, and not once did it leave us on the side of the road. General maintenance had a play in that, but the car is still running today and strong. We still take it on all our trips.
