Faults:

Blown head gasket, worn out camshaft, water pump, 2 lifters.

General Comments:

I obtained this car in 2010 as my first car. It was given to me by a member of my church, and at the time it had a blown head gasket, worn cam, two bad lifters and a bad water pump.

It was a two door 1.8 liter model, a very nice looking car, also performed pretty well with the small motor size.

I fixed all the above problems myself, as I am very knowledgeable with cars, and it was very reliable afterwards.

All up until I had learned that the engine block was cracked and had gotten bad enough for the motor to overheat, and there was nothing I could do.

At age 19, I didn't have the money to buy another motor for it, and attempted to sell it at a very low price.

With no buyers and me being very hard up for money, I had no choice but to haul it to my local scrap yard, with great interior and an almost perfect body.

I'm still beating myself up today for taking my car to get crushed, and wish I still had it. If you come across one for a reasonable price while looking for a vehicle, I would highly recommend looking into it.

Faults:

I really loved the car very much, it was nice to drive, and good gas mileage too. I did not have any problems with the car at all, since I bought it brand new, and had to sell it in 1986, when I got married. I missed the car very much!

Mine was a standard 5-speed model, two door.

General Comments:

In general, I'd just like to say that I loved the car, and was sorry that I had to sell it, after I got married, because we had to move, due to my husband's new job.

We drove it to Florida Keys for our honeymoon trip, and it was comfortable, and had good gas mileage. My husband also sold his car, which was a Toyota Celica, and it was a 1980 model.

We moved to Europe after the honeymoon, for two years, and it was so exciting, I sold my car to a father, who bought it for his daughter's first car, and said that it was a nice car too.

When we got back from Europe, we had a baby, and I bought a 1980 Toyota Celica hatchback, which had lots of room for the baby, and baby equipment. It was a 5 speed, and I loved it very much. We moved to Minnesota, for 10 years, where my baby grew up in the snow, and then, we moved back to North Carolina again in 2002, when my son was old enough to start to learn how to drive. He is in college now, and now, we drive a Mitsubishi which is also very nice car, and have not had any problems with it.

My first car was a VW Rabbit, which my father bought for me, and I was just happy to have a car to drive around! Cars are nice except for when they have mechanical problems, and can be very expensive, because I don't want to work on cars, and don't know anything about it at all, and can afford to pay for a lot of repairs either.

The Sunbird was a good car, and we did have the best honeymoon trip in it!

Faults:

Drivers side seat is worn, upholstery is tearing on passenger door.

General Comments:

This car is actually pretty decent. It has proven to be reliable and somewhat fun to driven when kept up properly. A few quirks I have, though;

1. The engine takes longer than most to shift into drive, about 3 seconds or so. Kind of odd, but not a big problem.

2. This car gets HOT when it sits in idle. I noticed this recently when I was waiting for a friend. I was in park for about 5 minutes and the temperature reading was about 240. My coolant levels were fine, and it cools down when you drive it.

Other than that, this car has been solid.

Faults:

This was the best car I have ever had.

I can't think of one problem it gave me. It never left me stranded on the side of the road. It was sound and very reliable.

General Comments:

This car was great. Perfect little get up and go. Never gave me one day of trouble. I loved this car. It was sporty and very fun to drive. It drove like a dream. I would still have this car if someone hadn't hit me. I miss my Sunbird. If you have a chance to own one of these cars do it. I could not have asked for a better vehicle.
