1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE 2.0 OHV 4-Cylinder

Summary:

An economical, reliable cost-efficient alternative for any avid driver

Faults:

-I had some minor solenoid trouble last winter, but with the twist of a bolt within the solenoid, that was fixed.

-I replaced 2 front struts and right mount because I had a clunking noise coming from my right wheel.

-I replaced the muffler last month because after a drag, it left my car sounding like a dirt bike with a bad cold.

General Comments:

All in all, this car is beautiful. It's a joy to drive, has enough kick to get you where you're going and can leave quite a few vehicles in the dust at the stoplight, if you show it who's boss.

1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE 2.0

Summary:

This car is a tank

Faults:

My Catalytic Converter has just recently died on me. Aside from that, and replacing the starter 3 months ago, nothing but basic maintenance has been required.

General Comments:

The Pontiac Sunbird is a good all around car. It's 2.0L engine is good enough for city and day trips on the highway, but I would not dare drive to Vancouver with it. As far as the engine and mechanics are concerned, my Sunbird is a tank. It has never failed to start even in -40 mornings. The interior is comfortable, but the plastic coveers for the front speakers and vents will dry out and break. But these are simple enough to find at any junk yard. The cloth interior is nice, but any spills or smoke absorbs into the seats and carpet and remains for weeks. But overall, I love this car, its been reliable and cheap to run for the last few years and I don't pay diddly for insurance.

1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE 2.0

Summary:

A good car for the money

Faults:

Alternator was replaced at 75,000 miles.

Transmission shifts up and down too much. Filter and fluid changed, but no improvement in shifting.

ABS sensors freeze in winter.

Rear brakes grab.

Seats are uncomfortable, and passenger side doesn't slide easily.

General Comments:

The engine is powerful for its size.

Car starts easily in cold weather and goes great in the snow (with decent tires, of course).

Overall, a decent car, but I don't think it will last more than 130,000 miles without major repair.

1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE 2.0

Summary:

A good first car as long as you keep up the maintenance

Faults:

I have replaced the water pump and the thermostat once.

My driver's side bar that evens out the weight corroded and broke. So I went and bought a new one and replaced it myself.

Right now the car seems to make a very loud humming noise and the check gauges light is blinking. When the light is on, the car doesn't like to shift into 1st and 2nd gear. It makes a grumbling noise.

General Comments:

This is my first car, it is a very reliable car to run around in.

It doesn't seem like it has that great gas mileage. The first half of the tank goes slow, but when you hit 1/2 it seems to go really fast.

I never knew that having a car was so much of a responsibility. After reading what others have written about their Sunbirds, I hope that mine doesn't start to go. I have been pretty lucky with only a few things that have gone wrong and I have found someone in my area that is pretty cheap. But I love my sparkley blue Sunbird.

1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE 2.0

Summary:

Great, reliable first car!

Faults:

Replaced 2 alternators (last one was @ 160,000 km)

New Rad (100,000)

A/C compressor pump blew @ 110,000.

Rust started to really spread on doors and hood.

Shocks and Struts @ 185,000.

General Comments:

No real majors repairs.

Good pick-up for a 2.0L (standard)

Only bad comment is the rust, but I live in Canada with salt on the roads in winter.

Oh the joys of winter! I live in Northeast Ohio and I understand completely about the salt and snow rusting out a Sunbird. I also own a Sunbird when I bought it it wasn't rusted. Now there's rust all over the passenger side door and wheel well.
