1996 Pontiac Sunfire GT 2.4 L

Summary:

It's a good car

Faults:

Water pump.

General Comments:

It's a good car and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about buying one. The only thing that I have had go wrong with mine is the water pump, but you're bound to have some things go wrong with it every now and then.

It has great pick up for a 4-cylinder.

The seats are comfortable.

Plenty of lighting and and easily visible instruments.

1996 Pontiac Sunfire SE Coupe 2.2

Summary:

Good looking, well handling car when it runs...

Faults:

OK, it is on its 3rd transmission, just had a new one put in yesterday and there is something wrong with it ALREADY!

Hard starting it sometimes, but of course, the dealer can't find anything wrong.

I am ready to sell this and buy a REAL car, like an old Chevelle or something. New cars are built incredibly cheaply because all anyone cares about is money. Pontiac USED to be one of the best cars on the road, but I would still take my Sunfire over a Honda anyday.

General Comments:

I have heard that the 2.4 5 speed Sunfires are really hot cars, with no automatic tranny problems..... New cars suck.

Why would you rate the car's reliability as an 8 when you've replaced the car's transmission 3 times?

A word of advice: sell off your Sunfire before the only interested party is a junk dealer; I stuck it back to my Pontiac dealer when I traded my '96 Sunfire for a '77 Trans-am plus $4000 cash.

I own a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire, I bought it November 2002. Since I've owned this car I have replaced the head, timing belt and tensioner, both oxygen sensors, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and front wheel bearings. The check engine light is on so often I've thought about finding a way to take the bulb out of it. I wish I would never have bought this car and will probably never own another general motors product again. Repair costs since I have owned this car total over $1,600.00.
