1998 Pontiac Sunfire GT Convertable 4 cylinder

Summary:

A great convertible, at a great price

Faults:

Passenger side window regulator needed to be replaced.

The driver side window regulator is going, but still working. Might have to replace this summer. The window does not seal tight. Could be that once it's fixed it will seal better.

I had the front brakes replaced.

The convertible top does leak in the rain.

I also replaced the factory stereo, so now I cannot use the controls on the steering wheel.

General Comments:

I love my car. It is a sexy car. I get a lot of comments when I am out. Everyone always asks what kind of car is that?

The gas mileage it great.

I love the fact that it does not have any plastic window.

The heater cranks and the air conditioning still works great.

It turns on a dime and is quick.

It is 2006 and I just bought a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire GT convertible. It has about 86000 miles on it and runs like a top so far. It seems to be in great shape other than a few blemishes if you look close. I've done a lot of research on this car and have found mostly good reviews. It's been so much fun to drive so far. I'm looking forward to driving it more and hope to have it for a very long time.

1998 Pontiac Sunfire SE Sedan 2.2L

Summary:

A reliable, attractive, and fun family car

Faults:

This car as been virtually trouble free. Only added costs we have had is new tires at 45000 miles.

Only thing wrong is my wife doesn't keep it very clean!

General Comments:

We were amazed at the difference in luxury compared with the Cavalier. For being built on the same platform, the Sunfire is a notch above the Chevy.

It is a nimble, quiet, and comfortable vehicle. Very roomy for a vehicle of it's size.

1998 Pontiac Sunfire SE Coupe 2.2

Summary:

A very affordable and reliable vehicle

Faults:

I have had to replace the thermostat sensor.

Other than that, just general upkeep and maintenance have been done.

The paint on the roof is a little faded, but still looks OK.

It's a little cramped to lift my daughter in and out of the back seat from her car seat.

General Comments:

I love this car! It has been very dependable and affordable to have. I would definitely buy another Pontiac in the future.

1998 Pontiac Sunfire Coupe 2.2L

Summary:

An overall good car

Faults:

I've had to replace the battery.

Also I've had to replace the factory CD player.

But other than that it's worked fine.

General Comments:

For a little 4 cylinder it has good get up and go. drives much better than other Pontiac's I've driven and hadles like a dream.

I have a 5-speed and it also has a moon roof which makes it very fun to drive.

It is also built for comfort, the seats hug your body and you can actually use the arm rest. For such a small car it is very roomy on the inside.

1998 Pontiac Sunfire SE Coupe 2.2 OHC

Summary:

Proved itself in extreme conditions!

Faults:

I was driving around a small turn at 105 MPH at 5 A.M., obviously not smart of me, but I knew the car could take it. A deer jumped out in front of the car about 50 feet ahead, I swerved and the car began skidding sideways, Id say for about 300 feet, No roll over, The car then started going back wards, I looked at the speedometer as I was heading to wards a deep ditch and trees and it read 90 MPH. I slid down a ditch I'd say about 4 feet deep on a slope and hit a tree at 80 MPH. The passenger and I emerged from the car without a cut nor scratch, no seat belts on non the less. I destroyed the rear passenger quarter panel, rear bumper, trunk, sub frame, chassis and the rear tire was on a 45 degree angle. The car started on the first turn and pulled out of the ditch without hesitation.

General Comments:

I believe that Pontiac's are possibly the best domestic built cars in America.

100% agree with you on Pontiac being the best vehicle. I've done a similar thing as you, but I was only going around 80-85 MPH, and it was at night; I took a 45 degree turn at 80-85 mph, my car started losing control when it went on the driver's side two tires, but within seconds it went back down on all 4, and I regained control without an accident, and I didn't even ruin the suspension or any part of the car. The only thing that happened was my alignment was horribly off after that, but any vehicle's alignment would be off after being on only two of the four wheels.

So I completely agree with you, the 98 Sunfire is built tough, and in my opinion is the best vehicle ever built. I have 154,645 miles, and she's still running strong!!!
