1999 Pontiac Sunfire SE 2.4L Twin Cam

Summary:

This is a very reliable car and a very great first car

Faults:

The front rotors and brake pads were replaced before I got the car.

I only thing that I had to replace was the rear brake drums, shoes, and return springs which ran about $130.

General Comments:

The interior is very comfortable and it is actually very spacious.

The 2.4L Twin Cam is a beast, very responsive with great acceleration linked up with the 5 speed manual transmission.

The car is very sporty and it looks more expensive than it is really valued at.

The trunk has a lot of cargo space and the rear seats fold down for even more space.

The car handles very well with a smooth ride, with no annoying cabin or road noises.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire SE 2.2L DOHC

Summary:

Awesome sports car for a 16 year old

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this car.

The only thing that needed to be replaced was the front rotors. Which cost a total of $30.00.

General Comments:

This is my first car, and it's a great one. The car handles and takes sharp turns without a problem. It's good on gas, and for a 16 year old male and his friends, it holds up very well.

The engine is very clear cut and dry (meaning very easy to work on if need be).

Overall this car is great. Good on gas and very quick. Great price and with a sporty look too!

Recommended highly for a first car!!

1999 Pontiac Sunfire SE Coupe 2.2

Summary:

She is a cute, but costly car to own

Faults:

I don't recall all the mileage to every repair, But here is a list:

The same #2 plug, uncountable times.

2 batteries.

1 alternator.

4 sets of head light (bulbs)

2 headlight switches (on the steering column)

1 v-belt.

2 seals (right under the top half of the engine, head gasket?)

At least 25 pairs of front brake pads, unknown, still unsolved braking issue.

1 (soon to be 2) sensor on the rear brakes.

General Comments:

With every turn she keeps costing me money!!

I think she was/is a lemon!

Funny that you mention brake pads. I recently bought a 98 Sunfire (in July) and I have had to change my front brake pads once so far, but they are already squeaky starting to sound squeaky again. I'm wondering if it'll happen again..

I have had a 1998 Sunfire GT for 2 years now and have also had countless problems with the front brakes. That must be something with this car. I never knew other people were having the same problem. Also, right now I am changing the manual transmission in it.

After my third trip to the repair shop for passenger side brakes and "locked" calipers, I replaced the hose myself (repair shops said it looked good), and no more brake wear.

I looked this up on the Internet and found several comments that the hose "kinks" on the inside. Evidently the hose is made up of 2 parts; a rubber inside and a tough outer shell. The outer shell can look like new, but inside it may be kinked.

Like 10 bucks at rockauto.com. You will have to bleed or have the brakes bled after changing the hose.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire GT 2.4L

Summary:

It's a good cheap quick sporty looking car

1999 Pontiac Sunfire 2.4 liter

Summary:

Sporty, reliable, great car!

Faults:

The only problem I have ever had with this car was at 122000 miles. The alternator went out. It cost a total of $300 for parts and labor.

General Comments:

This was my first car and it was the best choice I could have made!

It was very reliable. Only one problem in the five years I've had it.

It always started in cold weather. We were in MN.

I would drive it into the ground if I could, but some jerk rear ended me and now she's totaled.

Even after that she runs great, but the insurance company wants her.
