2004 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2

Summary:

Not good value

Faults:

Well mechanically, I have had virtually no problems with this car.

However, the car is cheaply made.

Seats are very uncomfortable. I had the drivers seat replaced, because one day when I adjusted it, the lever broke and the metal started to poke through the fabric, and was really hurting my back.

Radio buttons stick and the CD player works sporadically.

The cover on the door handle fell off when I shut the door. It is made of very cheap plastic.

General Comments:

I paid $19,000 for this car. It runs good and looks sporty, but I was very disappointed because of the items mentioned above.

2004 Pontiac Sunfire GT 2.2 Eco tech

Summary:

Simple, powerful, very good for everyday use

Faults:

I recently purchased new front brake pads in order for it to pass PA state inspection, and not long after that I needed new tires, nothing unusual just the basics. However there is a small problem with my rear alignment being off, but I'm getting that taken care of this Monday.

General Comments:

This car is reliable with that extra little power kick for when it's needed. Not bad on gas, and so far parts are relatively cheap. I'm very happy with this car, seeing that my last car was a disaster.

2004 Pontiac Sunfire 1SA 2.2 ECOTEC

Summary:

Good little econo car and can be upgraded

Faults:

So far nothing has gone wrong with this car.

General Comments:

It is a Major upgrade from an '89 Accord. The car on a whole is better than what I needed.

I only travel about 1.5 miles or 2.5 km to work and the same back. This car can do me for about a month before I have to fill up (I do fill regularly as in more than once a month). No I haven't tested mileage or 0 to 60 (100km) times, but it does so in between 7-8 seconds.

It's not a supercar, but it is a real zipper around town. You can easily pass most traffic with a quick down shift and a tromp on the gas. You won't beat anything sup ed up unless you put a wad of cash in it, but it feels fairly fast and responsive for such an inexpensive car. Overall it is a good car for what it was built for; a semi-stylish, econo car.

For those who would like, to it can be upgraded in the HP area with a Supercharger direct from the head company so it doesn't void any warranty. And according to the ECOTEC manufacturer, it can handle about 300-350 HP on stock internals so not too much worry of blowing anything up with mild mods.

It's a nice car for a first car, but also upgradable for a younger market (not me). 2 Thumbs up for a good (not great) econo car with some get up and go.

2004 Pontiac Sunfire Base 2.2 ECOTEC

Summary:

Absolutely the best car for 20 grand

Faults:

Never had any major problems.

At 42,000 miles a stupid service person contaminated the brake line, which led to me selling the car.

Other than that, the car was the best car I ever owned.

General Comments:

For a four cyl. this car is very fast, it tops out a 107 mph with no shaking.

My Sunfire was fully loaded, so it was very comfortable.

Looks very sporty.

2004 Pontiac Sunfire Sports Package 2.2 Liter

Summary:

Great Sports Compact

Faults:

No failures/breakage. I had to replace the gas cap/intake due to a factory error.

General Comments:

The cost of this car is astonishingly cheap compared to similar imports. The performance rating is realistic in that I can actually get a 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds unlike my Honda civic/accord friends.

Although the seats arn't overly comfortable I did take my car from Iowa to California without any aches and pains. The only thing I regret was not getting Cruise Control with my car.

The shifting is effortless and very sporty as the clutch catches on a slight release instead of all the way out like a Ford Focus (2001). Great for racing and passing in traffic if need be.

The biggest advantage of this car is an accurate MPG rating. In Iowa with 1.5 hour drive to work I got 42-47mpg. In the city here in California I get 30-35mpg depending on how many times I race/drive hard (late to work). Great for college students who need to save like myself!

Being my first car I am completely satisfied. Pontiac is exceptional in how they build their cars with a quality focus especially in recent years (2002+).

NEGATIVES:

Like other reviewers the ceiling of this car is very low and unless I have the seat further back I hit my head (I am 5'11). Also because this car is low to the ground I find it difficult to get in and out.

The inside is full of cheap plastic and the seats are cheap cloth. I have not noticed any abnormal wear/breaking because of this though.

Just to let the review above know, the stock Sunfire only has a 140 Hp Ecotec 4 Cylinder Engine, Although its peppy, its no Porsche, especially stock. 7.1 seconds eh? bull 7.1 seconds to 60 km/h. And also 42 mpg, isn't even close to a Sunfire its more like 22 in town and 31 on highway.

Cheers Enjoy!
