1986 SAAB 900 S 2.0 Liter

Summary:

Warning: Saabs are addicting and if own one once you'll never buy anything else

Faults:

The air-conditioner stopped working for a few days and just before I brought it to be repaired, it started to work.

General Comments:

I love this car with all my heart. I am a meteorologist who works and studies at the Mount Washington observatory in northern New Hampshire. I live in Whitefield which is about 25 minutes from the base of the mountain. Every day rain or shine My 1986 saab hatch and I climb all 6,280 feet of very steep winding road to the top. The car has been doing this weather permitting (blizzards) every day. I have never once worried that the almost 400,000 miles would slow it down. To climb the mountain I select third gear which enables the car to climb at about 35 mph at 2500-3000 RPM depending upon grade. (10-20) degrees. Many cars are not able to climb the mountain. The other day I saw a Porsche 911 pulled over with an overheated engine.

I have a SAAB 900 Turbo convertable and I agree with everything you said, these cars are AMAZING! They are fast and drive like no other. I will own at least one SAAB for the rest of my life.

This brought a tear to my eye.

1986 SAAB 900 S 2.1 liter

Summary:

A car that will always be there when you need it

Faults:

The car has overall done very well over the last eightteen years.

1. New headlight switch at about 235,000 miles

2. healight blew at 167,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is incredibly reliable! I have do not think that there will ever be a more reliable car ever built. It has a solid feel and doesn't rattle one bit! I drive long distances every week and I cruise at about 95 mph in this hatchback and the car's punchy four banger it hardly trying. Red cloth seats are still perfect, and the car still shines like new. My goal is to reach 1,000,000 miles!

Thanks. Reading this review has made me feel very good about my purchase of my 1986 SAAB 900s for only $500.00 last April,2005. The upholstery is in perfect condition as well as the body. It drives like a charm and I am very pleased. There were a few minor repairs like the wiper motor ($95.00 Internet purchase) and a new tire. I will have a CD player installed very soon. Other than those few repairs it really has proved to be a nice and enjoyable vehicle.

Thanks again,

Greg Jackson

1986 SAAB 900 S 2.0 liter

Summary:

Nothing will ever be better

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong so far with the car Except for a burnt out headlight at about 150,00 miles. I have not had to make one unscheduled stop because of a problem.

General Comments:

The car is a dream to drive. I was born in 1970. when I was sixteen in 1986 my parents helped me by the $15,000 hatchback. From when I was sixteen I have been driving this car everywhere and never wanted anything else. For fun, just recently, I raced to the car up to 115 mph without a problem. This car has everything original same tranny same everything!Luckily the headliner is still hanging on and the red cloth seats are perfect. It has no rust and still shines like new. It doesn't burn oil and runs fine. No vibrations either. My wife drives a 2002 Saab 9-5 aero and we have a 2004 9-3 convertible. my wife wanted an SUV so she also has a 2002 Range Rover. Yet I drive a 1986 Saab to work everyday. I could be driving a BMW 745Li, but I would rather stick with my childhood friend.

Because GM only cares about the bottom line...It's goal is to make as much $$$ as possible. They view the SAAB badge as a "premium" high-profit model much like the Cadillac and SUV lines. It's basically the same as all their other cars with a few extra gizmos and some perceived status. I guarantee you that 20 years from now, people will not be writing glorious passionate reviews about the current GM SAABmobiles.
