2006 Saturn ION II

Summary:

Good car for the money

Faults:

I bought this car in November, and had problems with it not wanting to start in cold weather from the beginning.

I finally went to the computer one day, and found this site. First I tried replacing the ignition relay at the fuse box... no difference. Then I had my dad cut the white wire on the passlock system, and my car has started every time since then, no matter what the temperature.

I'm so glad I found this site.

2006 Saturn ION

Summary:

It sucks, do not buy it

Faults:

2 months ago the ignition got jammed due to a poorly manufactured ignition piece. When this happens, the key will not turn off and one must stall the vehicle (manual) and disconnect the battery.

During this same time, the steering column brain "went bad" and stopped working. This can only be replaced once due to some poor manufacturing choices when the car was designed.

We also had the ignition switch replaced just to be on the safe side of this not happening again.

Today, the key got stuck again.

I am not forceful when using the key; I would say I have been very gentle with it, since the last problem cost over $1000 to fix.

Lo and behold, it happened again.

With no help from the dealer (which is a 2 hour drive away). They told us that we would have to replace the ignition again, and there is no warranty on it.

This is a very common problem if looked up on the Internet, and there are no recalls on it, and the warranty does not cover it.

General Comments:

Though the car does handle nicely and does gets fair fuel mileage, this problem has me wanting to beat the car to death.

I still owe $3,800 on the car, and found out it is worth the same.

2006 Saturn ION

Summary:

I have enjoyed my Saturn very much

Faults:

I have just found out that Saturn's do not like cold weather! When the temp gets around 30-F, the car has COLD START issues. The PASSLOCK is ON telling me that the computer thinks the car is being started or attempted to be started illegally. The only way to fix this is to get a PASSLOCK BYPASS for approximately $60. Thank God I live in Florida and won't have to worry about this too much, but how am I supposed to get to work on a cold day???

General Comments:

Saturn's do not like cold weather.

Passlock bypass is the only fix.

2006 Saturn ION Ion-2 Quad Coupe 2.2L I4 140 hp

Summary:

This car was a disappointment due to multiple problems

Faults:

Power window switches and/or motor failure (multiple).

Reverse light switch failed.

Seat upholstery came unattached in various places.

Interior trim pieces fall off at random.

Sunroof mechanism broke; cost $350 to replace.

Clutch pedal squeaks horribly- must lubricate it on a regular basis.

Passlock system has failed twice (leaves car immobile).

At 58,000 miles, wheel bearings failed; cost over $400 to have replaced.

At 59,000 miles, fuel pump went bad; cost $600 to replace.

General Comments:

The car has had problems that a sub-4-year-old car with average mileage should NOT see.

Overall, the car looks good and gets very good MPG, and the performance is more than adequate.

2006 Saturn ION 2.2

Summary:

I love this car!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this car.

General Comments:

I absolutely love this car and I am so happy I bought it. It is great on gas, very comfortable, runs and handles great. The interior is very nice.

I highly recommend this car to anyone who is a true North American and buys North American made vehicles. I hope they never discontinue the Saturn line, because from now on I only want to drive a Saturn.

2006 Saturn ION 3 2.4 VVT

Summary:

Best bang for buck

Faults:

Nothing abnormal except for the usual wear and tear of driving 30,000km a year. The rotors are toast and need to be replaced, that happened around 60,000km. When I first got the car, I got a few rattles and squeaks. The dealership attended to those. Otherwise, no complaints.

General Comments:

The 2.4 VVT motor has lots more power than the 2.2. I have smoked many civics even with my granny shifting.

Handling is miles ahead of my previous car, but still could be better. Installing aftermarket lowering springs and upgrading the front and rear sway bars will fix that though.

Worth the money? hell yes. I challenge you to find a dealership with better service, and a car with similar performance for the same price. Yeah, you won't.

The polymer panels actually saved me a bunch of money when I got into an accident. The panels flexed and I only got a small scratch on my bumper while the Toyota echo I hit had a drooping bumper.
