1994 Saturn SC SC2 1.9 DOHC

Summary:

One of the best looking, well performing cars in its class, but not the most reliable in its class

Faults:

Leaky sunroof.

Leaky passenger side.

Engine overheats.

Clutch went out at 94,000.

A/C has a hole in it.

Ceiling is started to fall down at 80,000, so I decided to tear off the whole thing.

Recently replaced the entire cooling system: radiator, hoses, coolant tank, thermostat assembly, water pump.

Will need to replace the head gaskets soon.

General Comments:

Bought this car brand new and it worked perfectly for the first 60,000 miles. After the warranty expired, I have put over 20,000 dollars into this car just trying to maintain it.

I do notice that certain dealerships consistently "find" something wrong with the car whereas other dealerships consistently do not.

I do love this car, mind you. At 80,000 I decided to put on factory showroom tires, P215R17 with five star rims ($2400) and received mad props from people who drive by. Great for my ego.

This car has not been great for my wallet though. After replacing the gaskets (which will cost $2000) and replacing the sunroof by myself I will probably sell it.

1994 Saturn SC SC2

Summary:

Cheaply made, but cheap to drive, and still reliable

Faults:

Muffler fell off.

Plastic stuff (molding) on the interior is falling apart.

Windows leak (?)

Sunroof cover fell apart.

Interior is generally falling apart.

Transmission is starting to go...

General Comments:

Overall, for the amount that I drive my cars and beat on them, this thing has proven pretty reliable.

Yes, the interior is falling apart and I think I'll have to part with it soon as the transmission appears to be crapping out for good.

However, it gets great gas mileage and overall has proven extremely reliable.

It was also pretty zippy when I first got it... Not so much anymore.

I think this is a good car for someone who just wants a good, RELIABLE daily driver, though honestly I can't say that it has too many advantages over my previous car, the Mercury Tracer, which can typically be found for even cheaper.

Update -- the transmission did, indeed, crap out shortly after I wrote that review.

It is indeed a good econo-car for someone looking for a fuel efficient car on a budget, but for the money, I'd get another Tracer before another Saturn any day.

Would NOT buy another Saturn car again...

1994 Saturn SC 1.9 Twin Cam Supercharged

Summary:

Great running car, gas saver, and excellent handling. What more do you want?

Faults:

I have a 1994 Saturn SC2. It has 159k miles on it and still runs like new.

Just put a supercharger on it, and awaiting the arrival of my headers and drop springs. The car runs like NEW!

Only problem I've had with it is the alternator.

There aren't Euro Lights for these cars, which makes me furious.

General Comments:

The car is pushing about 280 horsepower with all the mods I have on it.

The handling of the car is outstanding. Even with stock tires and no strut bar, the handling is great.

My car can run a few V8s on quarter mile runs. Any V8 it can't outrun, it will definitely out handle. I've dropped about 200 pounds in weight by losing inner fender wells and back seat. Weight reduction is crucial with any speed enthusiast.

I don't like manual windows. And I'm looking to get a sunroof added for looks.

The cars have a street fighter 2 (SF2) body-kit and a spider 3 hood. You can make these cars look like a million bucks. Great looking sporty cars.

I just bought a 95 SC2 with 75k on it, and would like to spice it up a bit. Thanks for the insight to what my car could be, this review was great, My only question would be could you e-mail me some of the upgrades, and where you got them, that would be great, Therotcjoe@aol.com.
