Summary:

Plastic economy cars are a good thing

Faults:

Alternator died (per usual with any GM car, replaced by a non GM alternator).

Shattered catalytic converter on a railroad track.

Rear seat-back fading due to sun.

General Comments:

I got my money's worth and then some. I like the weight of this car, 2300 lbs, especially with the 125 HP. I wouldn't mind the torque peak being lower. It seems to be around 4500. I'd like it better if it was 2200 or so, but then again, this isn't a Lotus.

Handling is good compared to other cars, but the engine and road noise may bother sensitive women and old men.

I get 29 MPG during "spirited" driving. I've almost gotten 40 MPG on the highway.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I have an automatic 1994 Saturn SC2 that I love. However, at around 65,000 miles little things here and there have seemed to go. I had to replace the muffler bracket and hanger as well as put in a new lock cylinder for the ignition. The catalytic converter (heat shield) is falling off and making some annoying rattling sound while in drive. As soon as I put it in park or neutral it stops. However, besides these minor things, it gets great gas mileage (around 27/28 city, 40 highway). It has some good pick-up. It's been a great first car for me! Brenda (MayTulip84@yahoo.com)

1994 Saturn SC SC2

Summary:

Piece of junk, never buy Saturn

Faults:

Alternator went out after only 20,000 miles.

Gas pedal sticks on a daily basis.

Sunroof and power windows work when they want to.

Brakes rarely ever work like they're supposed to, but they've been this way since I bought the car.

Interior design of this car is a joke. The dash where the steering wheel is lifts up and down (not the steering wheel, which does but it is supposed to). The plastic panels that hold the seatbelt in place are rattling loose once again. This will be replacement number 8 for those panels. EVERYTHING RATTLES!!!

The paint is peeling off my spoiler and hood, and my car is washed quite often, it isn't a maintenance problem.

My muffler sounds as if it is about to fall off. My engine makes these really odd noises here lately.

You'd expect a lot more out of a car with only 65,000 miles on it and it being 7 years old, but it is a Saturn and that's not saying much.

General Comments:

I will never buy another Saturn due to all the problems that I've had, it is a "plastic joke" as someone said earlier. All my friends make fun of it and call it "RUBBERMAID". Or the "RATTLEMOBILE" or the "GOLD BOMB" because it always sounds as if it is about to blow up.

Hi,

I have a 1992 Saturn SC2 with everything except leather seats. The car only has 100,000 miles on it and the transmission let go. Now I realize that some people may consider this to be acceptable. I called Saturn and through speaking to their service department I dicovered that Saturn WILL NOT warranty any transmissions regardless of year or mileage. The service department said that when spinning your tires in the snow, one tire may hook the pavement and this would cause the carrying pin for the differential gear to fly out through the transmission housing. Now I don't know about you guys but I find it pretty near impossible to NOT spin my tires in the snow.

If anyone reading this does not believe me I suggest that you call Saturn pretending to have a blown transmission and see what they tell you.

1994 Saturn SC SC1 1.9 12 valve

Summary:

Cheap on gas!

Faults:

Radiator.

Alternator.

Battery.

Brakes (rotors, no wear sensor).

Fuel gauge (on a cross country trip).

Interior lights (map, and r defog indicator).

General Comments:

5-speed manual is fun, but the gears are short, and the engine struggles on hills.

Very sporty, good suspension.

Excellent clutch - almost 100k, and still solid.

Do not buy if over 6 feet tall, very short interior.

Sunroof is nice touch.

Body panels don't dent just like on the commercials.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

My 93 Saturn SC1 has over 116,000 miles and is the most dependable vechicle I have owned. Not to mention that I am getting 35 miles to the gallon and have not had any major repairs done to the vechicle.

I would have to disagree with the statement that you made about the Saturn SC being to small in the interior. I am 6'5" tall and find that I have plenty of head room and pretty good leg room.
