1995 Saturn SC 2 1.9L

Summary:

Love the car and would buy another in a heart beat!!!

Faults:

It burns oil pretty badly, but my friends does that also so it must be a Saturn thing.

Well I have never really had to replace major parts just normal wear and tear.

Need to get the A/C recharged went out at about 170,000 miles.

Need to replace the ABS speed sensor, but only about $0.50.

Not to well in the snow, but it does get the job done when it has good tires.

I need to replace the catalytic converter went out about 150,000 miles but no problem just sucks down the gas and smokes alot when I first start it in the am.

General Comments:

Love the sport look.

Shifts great quick and fast.

I can take the corners pretty fast and have no problems with the tires.

It beats most of my friends cars in racing.

I am doing some mods to it so it should be a bit quicker.

So all in all I love my Saturn and it gets the job done.

1995 Saturn SC 2 1.9L DOHC

Summary:

Best bang for your buck

Faults:

Engine burns about a quart of oil a month.

Locking mechanism in passenger seat starting to give.

Hard to take out oil filter without leaking onto another part.

Headlight doors starting to rust.

Sunroof and doors leak.

Brake lights burn out about twice a year.

If car sits to long without a good air source to cool down, the transmission can get sticky. (waiting to get into Six Flags Great America)

General Comments:

1.9L 4 cylinder has a decent amount of pick-up for its size.

Average around 31MPG highway.

Took sharp corners at 30MPH and the tires don't even chirp.

Stick shift is responsive and shifts like a dream.

If you really need to gun it, the car deliver.

1995 Saturn SC Sc2 1.9L DOHC

Summary:

Great car for a teenager much better than my 1987 Olds Calais

Faults:

Just recently am having alternator problems.

Check engine light came on earlier this week. most likely a computer problem.

Previous owner left a lot of scrathes on the outside of the car, nothing a little touch up paint and a buff can take care of.

General Comments:

Bought the car for a steal 3100.

For the most part in great shape. interior is good, exterior is great love the sporty look.

Not a family car, back seats have no room, and front is sports coupe designed.

Trunk is spacious able to fit football equipment with plenty of room to spare.

Stock speakers are crap recommend installing quality sound system.

If you take care of it it'll take care of you.

Don't listen to him. I have a 1995 Saturn SC2 and it has 195,000 miles on it. I got it for 600 bucks and it was the greatest investment ever! Most reliable car I've ever owned. Only oil changes and the occasional gas and belts. That's IT!

1995 Saturn SC 2

Summary:

Great car for persons with more than one income, from what I have read on this site, good gas mpg

Faults:

Currently having trouble with the transmission, shifting with a bang into reverse, also having trouble with the transmission skipping/sticking from 2nd into 4th gear, now happening about 7 times a week. Trouble with the car now, stuck in 3rd gear this morning and won't shift out. Acts like it will quit idling at stops and just leave me stranded. I don't know what to do! Single working Mom cannot afford to have costly repairs.

General Comments:

I bought this car from my mother, who paid way too much for it brand new, but it has such low miles on it and it is beautiful.

The first week of Feb 2005 I bought it from her, and that week the transmission decided to start 'skipping' 3rd, and going to 4th. Now it does it over 7 times a week, and it also 'bangs' every now and then when put in reverse. I go to neutral first to try to avoid this, but sometimes it just does not matter, and does it anyway.

This morning the car just 'wheezes' when started, and is stuck in 3rd, and acts like it wants to die.

This morning the windows are slow going up too, and from reading the comments posted on this site, I think it could be the alternator.

The appearance of the car is great, although the rattles in the dash are there. I used rubber strips from window cleaning wands to jam into the cracks, and this works great, you cannot even tell they are there.

The average person would expect that the sunroof would die, and it has, along with the alarm.

The trunk area or rear of the car has a very annoying thump as I am driving, and I cannot tell what it is, even though I keep looking to see if I can find it.

My idea of a bargain on gas, but I cannot see spending what she did for it brand new.

I am eager to find out what is up with the car and fix it quickly, but it sounds like it is going to cost me plenty, something I did not plan on.

I take great care of it, as my Mom did, and it really does get me here and there, but now I will probably have to cancel my Disneyland trip for my son's birthday, as I can't afford to rent a car, and can't trust the Saturn to get me there and back. This is just disappointing, and very unexpected.

Check the transmission fluid and have it changed, if necessary. Try some high quality auto trans fluid as a replacement, like Royal Purple or Redline. I had a similar problem with my car and this fixed it.

DO NOT get a transmission flush, as it can destroy your transmission.
