I bought my Saturn directly off the show room floor and had no problems with it... it went through two teen agers, hit 2 deer and still out-performed any car I have ever owned,

General Comments:

The car handles great and holds a curve better than any I have ever owned.

I know for sure it will get you a ticket if you aren't careful..

1994 Saturn SL SL2 4 cylinder, twin cam

Summary:

Reliable, economical transportation

Faults:

Catalytic converter had to be replaced at 160,000 miles.

Motor mounts have been replaced twice.

Drivers side window regulator had to be replaced at ca. 80,000 miles.

Driver's seat belt retractor began sticking at approximately 100,000 miles. The dealer replaced it at no charge, although the car was out of warranty.

Radio volume decreases spontaneously -- this began at approximately 140,000 miles.

Foam rubber covering on steering wheel began disintegrating from heat after approximately 6 years.

General Comments:

This car has held up well under fairly heavy use.

It's been more reliable and cheaper to maintain than the 1986 Toyota Corolla I had before.

The plastic body panels are durable and still look good after several years.\

The car handles well and achieves a good balance between power and economy (although I didn't like the less powerful SL's and SL1's I tested before selecting the SL2).

Faults:

I also have had problem with the motor mounts in my 1994 SL2 Saturn. A Saturn service centered mentioned that the motor mounts crack every 40,000 miles. Also, he stated this is do to a bad engineering design.

1994 Saturn SL SL1 1.9 SOHC

Summary:

The Saturn SL1 is nice-looking, reliable and inexpensive to service and run

Faults:

My seat belt latches run half way through the track and stopped working.

The windows don't stay up all the time. Occasionally I've had to roll them up.

The drivers side seat is ripped at the seam.

There's a patch of rust the size of a quarter on the driver's side rear window.

There are 2 broken rocker arms at about 189000 miles.

Stereo system malfunctioned when I first bought the car, but it was replaced twice with an upgraded system each time for free.

Snake belt is relatively poor quality and the tires aren't in proportion with the body.

General Comments:

It has a great turning radius compared to other comparable cars.

The windshield wipers are the best I've ever owned. I still have the original wipers after 6 years.

Maintenance is affordable.

Excellent gas mileage... about 35 miles to the gallon.

The car stars reliably in all weather conditions.

There has been no need of getting snow tires.

I still get remarks from others that the car looks great... it is very shiny has no body rust.

When the car is air conditioned and then turned off, it is still cool in the car. The same goes for the heat.

Great adjustable head rests and excellent storage spaces.

I'd agree, I have a 92 Saturn SL with 221000 miles on it and I'd say that this is a car that works best for people who really drive. It's almost as though if it sits still it's as though it went on vacation and doesn't want to come back to work. I drive right at 1800 miles a month between work college and your normal errands, and we've had this car from 144K on the original title. We've replaced the water pump, master and slave clutch cylinders at 180K miles. The seals have all dried up over the windows and the floor panel has rusted through below the back seat causing water to retain in the seat well. All in all though I haven't had any major issues. She does burn some oil, but that's actually something that the original Saturns were known for and is to be expected at her age. I say as long as you keep working them these babies stick around.
