1997 Saturn SW SW2 1.9
Summary:
Great Car, Low maintenance, Great Gas Miles
Faults:
At 110,000 I needed to replace the O2 Sensor, EGR Value, and the Temp Sensor.
Battery for this car is a issue, non GM (Delco), and Saturn batteries only last about 1 year. GM (Delco and Saturn batteries last between 3 and 5 years.
Water Pump started to leak after about 40,000 miles.
Alternator when out around 60,000 miles.
Front disc brakes is a issue for this car. Cheap brakes Pad's only last about 10,000 miles. Factory pads last about 30,000 miles. Rear brakes last about 50,000 miles. Front Rotors! I am not sure what to said about them, my first set lasted about 80,000 miles. My second set only lasted about 10,000. My third set are still on the car.
General Comments:
Beware of non dealer service on Saturn's. I found out that some of the independent service centers cause more damage to my car, cause me to replace more parts them if I would have gone to the dealer the first time.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Bought a 97 SW2 with 50000 miles.
Replaced the oxygen sensors which were expensive.
Since then have 115000 miles with excellent mileage on mixed highway/suburban driving; usually 33 mpg. Have only replaced the usual maintenance stuff- brakes, oil. I hate maintaining cars so I'd give this a "B" rating. The highway ride is better than the other cheap cars I've had, but I can't compare it to say, a Volvo, which I could never buy.
