Faults:

Water pump replaced at 113,000 miles.

Starter freewheeling once in a great while.

General Comments:

Love the interior space: head room and rear seat leg room are amazing for a car this size! My teenage kids don't complain about riding in the back seat.

Great gas mileage - I've averaged just over 38 MPG since I bought it.

The upright seating position and high-backed seats offer good support for an old upper back injury.

Good visibility, despite the large roof-support pillars.

A 6th gear in the manual transmission would be great for highway cruising. 3500 RPM in 5th gear at 70 mph is too high for an economy car.

Faults:

Basically nothing.

Bought this car new in Washington, and imported it to Vancouver B.C. in 2005. Had it serviced in Washington for 3 years, great service at that dealership, and then when the warranty was up, did my own; basically oil every 3000 miles.

Have done the front brakes twice, back once, and it still has all the original parts, including the battery. Does not use a drop of oil, and has never let me down. This car is bullet proof, and will never leave my family.

I wish Toyota had not changed the model, but sometimes change is good, and I am going to buy the next generation xB in Canada, now that they are sold here.

General Comments:

This is my 3rd Toyota product, and I still love them.

Faults:

Over 160,000 miles on my car; had to replace the brake pads a few times, rotors once, and the oil.

The only "failure" at this point is the exhaust bushing; it wore out and leaked, a replacement was $15, and I changed it out when I changed the oil.

And once every Spring, I have had to change the A/C fuse for the past couple years; not sure why.

Still on the same clutch, and everything else is great, and trust me, I don't drive the car like a grandma. =)

Ride and handling is what should be expected for a small car. Winter driving is above average, with the right all-season tires.

Faults:

The 2 square front grille pieces fell out.

The front bumper lip cracked when I bumped into snow.

The screw in the R rear wheel well snapped, and the bumper sticks out now, from when I backed out of the driveway and bumped into snow left over from after the plow drives by on the street.

The hatch release on the back of the car snapped in half, and was left dangling by wires when I tried using it on a cold morning.

I was not comfortable while driving to work, so I shifted my weight placing my elbow on the arm rest/center console. When I applied pressure to the arm rest/center console, the plastic and magnet inside broke.

The windshield has cracked very easily.

On the passenger side of the car, it filled up with water and I don't know where it came from. I had to strip the panels and carpeting off, and push out the rubber plugs in the bottom of the floor to drain the water out.

General Comments:

The car handles poorly in the snow.

Some of the things that have gone wrong with my car are common things that happen with the xB. Look them up for yourself, and don't take my word for it.

I would not buy another one.
