1995 Subaru Legacy LS Sedan 2.2

Summary:

Holds up like a tank

Faults:

Burns oil.

Rust in rear door.

Rust rear left and right fender.

Sluggish acceleration.

General Comments:

Great car! Handles great. Very good in the snow. For $1000 you can't beat it.

Handles highway speeds. Slow to get up to speed, but the motor's got 212k on it, so I'll give it a break.

Body rusting, but still moves and runs great.

Gets good highway mpg. Still got a lot of life in it.

Love Subarus.

1995 Subaru Legacy L Wagon AWD 2.2L Flat Four

Summary:

An all around great car in every way

Faults:

When I first bought the car, there were some minor tears in the driver's seat, but that is to be expected of a car this old.

Just yesterday part of the muffler went, but that too is no surprise see as it's the original muffler, and the car is over 14 years old.

There are some pretty bad rust spots on the rear wheels wells and on the driver's door, but this car has lived it whole live in Pennsylvania, so it really comes as no surprise either.

General Comments:

When I bought the car, the previous owner told me that her father had put a rebuilt engine in the car, and it only had 60,000 miles on it.

The car handles like a dream. The suspension is very stiff around turns, but when you go over a bump or pot hole, you can barely feel it. The car is is pretty quick for having a small engine, and on top of that, it's unbelievably great on gas. I get about 26 MPG combined city/highway, and I've heard that if you use seafoam to clean out the engine, I've heard that it's possible to get well over 30 mpg while boosting your engine's power.

The car has an incredible amount of room, and the fold flat seats are such a nice feature.

This car is the easiest to work on out of any that I've ever been under. Changing the oil is a snap, and parts for this car are very inexpensive.

Just an all around great car that is really inexpensive to buy, insure, and repair.

1995 Subaru Legacy Wagon 2.2

Summary:

Wagon with a prayer

Faults:

Well I have the gas filler line leaking as of right now, 38.90 at the dealer so it's an easy fix.

It has a lot of rust, but it hasn't been taken care of till I got this car.

General Comments:

I purchased this car for 200 bucks used from a guy that wasn't keeping up on it, and I have put a new gas filler line in, a power steering cap and a radio. I don't know full damage till I get it fully inspected..

It brakes well, and I remind you it's a wagon 5 speed, and it drove 300 miles fine and only used half tank or just a little more than that.. but that was great..

I love the all wheel drive and the boxer motor.

I have to fix the exhaust leak, but other than that it's a good running car for 200 bucks.. I'm impressed.

I'd like to know where people are buying these cars for the prices named. I live on the west coast in a lower economy town, and people here are asking 2500 and up for similar sounding cars.

1995 Subaru Legacy L

Summary:

Great reliable point A to point B car; Great Gas MPG

Faults:

Bought the car for $900 bucks knowing it needed some work. I spent about $1500 getting several things fixed/rebuilt such as head gasket, water pump, Radiator etc.

Replaced brakes and all tires when purchased, which I might add was pretty cheap compared to other cars.

83k and still running strong.

General Comments:

I owned a V6 Altima; very quick car. I gave it up to pay back college loans and settled for a Subaru Legacy L Sedan.

I have to say I am very impressed, the car starts right up in cold weather, drives great. No problem doing 70-80mph on expressway.

Gas mileage is great for this recession we are having. I get anywhere from 25-34 mpg. I do city and highway driving so it's hard to tell.

Overall I am happy with my purchased, and if anybody is debating whether they should get this car, you will not be disappointed.

Mechanical fixing this car is fairly cheap, and supposedly the engine in this car, I believe it's the 2.2, is one of the best engines Subaru has ever made till this day.

It's not the fastest car in the world, but if you're looking for a reliable point A to point B car, this is it. If your looking for 0-60 in 5 seconds, go for a turbo rice rocket that would be in the shop more than on the road.

Just figured I would do a update...

Car is currently at 123k... Only problem I had within that 40k is a cylinder misfire, which I needed to get a new coil over and one of my sensors failed, which caused the check engine light to come on.

Coilover cost me - $225 with labor.

Sensor - $200 with labor.

I drive this guy everyday, and it runs like a champ... Acceleration is very weak, but it is what it is.

I live in New York, and these past 2 big snow storms, I had no problem getting to work in blizzard conditions. Keep in mind it is not an AWD.

Isn't a "coil-over" where each cylinder has its own coil? Hence the term "coil-over".

The mid 90's Subarus had a coil pack, but good luck finding an actual "coil-over" arrangement.

Glad you like your Subaru, tough cars, eh?
