1984 Toyota Camry LE 2.0

Summary:

A luxury, performance, cheap car

Faults:

It would lose power when going uphill. Restarting the engine would solve the problem. It seemed putting Chevron injection cleaner helped for a couple of months (used the 87 octane gas). Took it to the professional injection cleaning ($80 CAN), it didn't help at all.

Alternator failed, and power antenna never worked.

Some rust, nothing compared to an 82 Corolla.

General Comments:

Very quick to start, easy to handle, roomy.

All power options worked except antenna (sunroof, locks, windows, steering).

Used for pizza delivery in a big city, so it wasn't that fuel economical.

1984 Toyota Camry LE 2.0 4 cylinder

Summary:

This car is awesome

Faults:

It stalled going uphill when it was new. The Toyota dealer had terrible service and ripped me off. Once I took it to a mechanic this problem was easily fixed.

The relatively thin metal has produced rust.

The shocks were all replaced at 150k and are in need of replacement again.

General Comments:

This car has been unbelievable. It has 3 modes of travel: Power, Economy and Normal. The car can out-accelerate almost any car when on power and gets 44 miles a gallon on economy.

The interior is perfect and remains comfortable.

The engine is very powerful. People overlook this car but are stunned by its capabilities.

1984 Toyota Camry Hatckback LE 4 cylinder

Summary:

Fun, spacious, and mod-able

Faults:

Engine stalls from time to time, however I have found the part to fix this.

Hood cover wouldn't lock down. Fixed easily.

Tire Pressure is unreliable at times, but it is an easy fill.

General Comments:

This car is so sweet. I have tinted the windows, added a blacklight and a really loud thumping sound system which turns heads.

I just found out it will take a 454ci V8 engine so I am currently looking for one, although I wish it were rear wheel drive...

I have plans to make this car FAST, and look awesome.

What more could I want from a 4 door? It is spacious, reliable, fun, and can be tinkered with fairly easily.

So Nice.

The 40+ miles per gallon helps a lot.

The car that I have is a 1983 Toyota Camry and it runs like a dream car. But what some people don't like is that I race it at PGARA in Prince George so right now some people don't agree with what I'm doing to the car, but it great! I have so much fun with it! I just started racing last year (not street racing either at an actual track) and I love it! Some of you guys should try it someday!

Rice burners were not meant to be raced in america.

So you have a Camry and like the mileage. And then you put in a gigantic elephant motor. Just don't complain about the way your mileage has nosedived. Also, don't be surprised if it takes more work than you think to upgrade. A large engine like that in a flyweight like the Camry will bust the stock shocks and springs frequently, you'll have all kind of braking problems, and the car will show you the new meaning of understeer in corners.

Yes, these cars can take a 454 V8, but I wouldn't do more than a Toyota twin turbo Supra six swap if I were you.

Summary:

Good car to get around in

Faults:

I bought this car in 2000 for $1000.

Sway bar for both sides replaced at 125k.

Right CV joints blew at 124k. Both replaced.

Right strut needed replacement.

Tires have immediate wear.

Front speakers blown when I first bought the car.

"Door light" switch constantly on.

Gauges flip back and forth. ex: on temp.

Rust on the back trunk starting to move.

General Comments:

Though it has a really big trunk, it gets me from point A to point B.

Overall good car, spacious and all electrical. Haven't had any electrical problems yet.
