Glad to see your positive comments, as I've just purchased a 1992 Camry with 168,000 miles on it. The previous owner took excellent care of it (it's in immaculate condition), so I anticipate many happy years of driving!

1992 Toyota Camry XLE 3.0 V6

Summary:

Truly moving forward

Faults:

When I bought the car, the previous owner mentioned that the speedometer did not always work properly. It turns out that the speed sensor was to blame and I got it fixed. Other than that, nothing else has gone wrong.

General Comments:

I got this car for a steal at $2,000. It had 162,000 miles, but I took it anyway.

The speed sensor was replaced, and that stopped the car dying on me, and the needle not working.

This is a very comfortable car, especially with the lumbar support of the driver seat. My leather seats are worn, as are the carpets, but this is expected in a 14 year old car.

The paint is in nice shape, and there are no other major defects.

I believe Toyota builds a great car, and it's no wonder I see so many old ones on the road. There is a reason they are moving forward.

I can't really say anything bad about this car. Even with the high mileage it runs great. I hear that these cars, when properly maintaied and cared for, can run well over 200,000 miles.

If you're looking for a used car, I would recommend any Toyota Camry. Just make sure the previous owners took good care of it.

Well Japanese cars tend to keep their value. You got a heck of a deal for your car, but I guess it depends on where you live.

1992 Toyota Camry V6 XLE 3.0

Summary:

This car can be good if taken good care of

Faults:

The third day I drove it off of the lot, the brake light came on. I nearly got into an accident because the brakes suddenly went down all the way to the floor. Turned out to be brake lines. Fixed under warranty.

About a week later, the car refused to accelerate properly. There was a problem with the fuel injection. Fixed under warranty.

In the same month, the alarm system locked and would not allow me to start the car. It left me stranded about a half-hour from home. Dealer towed and disabled it under warranty.

Three days after I received it back, it wouldn't start again because of something with the battery. I attempted to give it a boost, and it still wouldn't budge. I never quite knew what was wrong, but it was fixed under warranty.

Smoke began to come from under the hood whenever I went on the highway or drove at higher speeds. Dealer said it was head gaskets and claimed to fix them. Car continued to smoke.

General Comments:

I expected to have some problems because even though the car only had 86K on it, it was still pretty old. Somebody didn't maintain it well because I chose the Camry because of many people I know owning one and being extremely pleased with it. Next time I have to watch where I'm buying from and I will continue to possibly buy Toyota, but I'll go newer and to somewhere else.

I recently purchased a 92 Camry XLE. I have a minor problem with it. The speedometer sometimes is stuck at 0 and will not move until it dies at a stop sign or light. I can quickly restart it, but I'm not sure what's up with it. Any clues would help. Thanks.

Brakes, fuel injectors, alarm system and unspecified battery problem all fixed under warranty?

On a 14 year old car?
