1993 Toyota Camry LE 3.0L V6

Summary:

The 1993 Toyota Camry is a very appealing car with a great reputation for reliability and quality

Faults:

Car was bought used. Dashboard has lost it's shine and has a "burnt plastic" look due to sun exposure. I believe the Dashboards on 1993 Camrys were not built well enough to sustain heat damage from the sun.

Even after reconditioning the dashboard it still looks the same and is beginning to crack.

With High humidity where I live, the windows take a long time to de-fog, making it difficult to drive at night down dark roads.

Trunk leaks water when opened after rain or washing.

Another minor problem with my Camry is the electric windows and door-locks have had some problems, but they were fixed.

Finally, The engine takes a very long time to cool down after use (especially after driving above speeds of 60 MPH).

General Comments:

The performance with the V6 engine is great! It passes other vehicles at high speeds with ease.

The 4-speed Automatic transmission gears shift very smoothly, even when I hit the accelerator hard.

The car handles pretty good with a smooth and quiet ride and drives like new.

Sound insulation is incredible!

The Camry was built with a very strong body which makes me feel very safe inside.

I also own a camry it also has that power locks and power window problem. I just had my transmission replaced it had 96000 miles on it. other than that it is a very nice car.

I have a 93 LE with 190000 miles. The dash; as with the rest of the car, still has just as much shine as it did when driven from the lot. It just depends on how you take care of it.

I bought my 93 Camry with 140000, had the transmission replaced at 175000. Blew a headgasket at 197000. I think it drinks too much, more than the Maxima and the Maxima feels sportier. The car has stranded me once (head gasket). I am experiencing creaks/thumps (tie rods) and slight jerkiness (bad engine mounts) both common issues with the V6. SV joints going out (currently 214000), had them put in when they did the head job. I love the leather and the sunroof and it cruises long distances very well. Yeah, I would buy it again - just not from the dealer I bought it from, and not get it repaired where I sent it for the two big jobs. Between them, they took a damn OK car and made it worse very expensively.

1993 Toyota Camry XLE Sedan 4 Cylinder

Summary:

What an over rated piece of junk

Faults:

The Camry ate 3 sets of tires in the first 20,000 miles.

The sunroof broke 5 times, twice they replaced the entire unit, including the glass. The sunroof would not close at the back and would whistle on the highway.

Two hub caps fell off.

The rear trim on the trunk fell off 3 times.

The master cylinder failed... the dealer told me to keep driving it anyway.

The cruise control shorted out the dash gauges.

The shifter handle broke in half.

The paint started to peel.

Power antenna stopped working.

The original battery lasted 10 months.

Front struts would 'squeak' in cold weather.

Pulse and grind in the front brakes, 5 sets of pads in 28,000.

Tape player died.

General Comments:

The Camry was a Consumer Reports best rated car, in two and a half years I had repair orders piled as high as a dictonary.

I one time found the dealers technician asleep in the car on a side street.

I got hit in a parking lot by a Chrysler LeBaron, it had paint on the bumper the Camry had $3500.00 worth of damage and took 3 weeks to fix due to back ordered parts.

It's obvious that most of those repairs are not mechanical. The tires are probably from mis alignment from the crash, paint as well, not to mention the grounded wires.

I too have a 93 Camry V6 XLE. Personally I have had endless problems, even after it has been fixed countless times. The biggest problems I have is the radiator which personally I don't think can cool the V6 engine. I am also having problems with the engine. The problems also might come from its two previous owners who I doubt treated the car right. But either way, I fixed ever part and it still seems to go wrong. I would buy another Camry, just not a V6.
