1997 Toyota Camry CE

Summary:

The most reliable car there is..

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with my Camry. At 107k miles, I trust it even more than I did when it was newer.. This is not a comfortable ride.. After about 5 hours of driving, one has no feeling from the waist down, its like sitting on a concrete block..Also, it's a little hard keeping the windshield from fogging up from the inside.I've tried numerous combinations of defrost and heat and air, but it just dosent seem to work.. These are minor problems on this otherwise miraculously reliable car..

General Comments:

Fabulous reliability.. Love the 40 miles per gallon gas mileage, and the brakes never wear out... I know my Camry is always ready to go, in any weather, from sub-subzero to driving pouring rain... I feel safe in this car, ans another plus is that its sort of anonymous.. One can travel alone and no one really looks at your car, because its very generic and I love that about it.. I travel alone a lot, and don't want to attract attention...

A great buy

This car has decent performance and is extremely reliable. It was a great buy. The fact that it was manual took some getting used to. It is comfortable and quite spacious.

1997 Toyota Camry CE unsure

Summary:

Average performance; AMAZING reliability

Faults:

The paint scratches easily. There are many tiny nicks and bumps all over the surface of the car. Hard to see from 10ft. away, though.

The tires had to be replaced (approx. $450 CAN) : due to regular use.

If you are buying a Camry, you MUST pay for better than average parts: this is not like my former Neon where I could try to shop in the bargain basement.

General Comments:

My 1997 Toyota Camry CE is not a sports car. The pickup can be a little sluggish at times. Luckily, I do not need a sports car.

It is HIGHLY dependable and reliable. We took it to Florida and back, NOT one problem. I got 650km Highway on ONE tank of gas!

Please note: the tailpipe hangs VERY low in the car, which was disturbing at first, but this is the case on most Camrys.

Of course, if you buy it, you HAVE to pay for it. Maintenance costs are higher than average (as opposed to a small car), but you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR: amazing reliability! When I went to get an oil change the other day, I fumbled with the hood release, because I hadn't popped the hood in over 2 months! (a sign of my laziness I'm sure, but you can't go that long with a Neon).

My point of comparison is a 1995 Dodge Neon. The Neon was average, good gas mileage, but had engine light problems that would have cost $500 just to SHUT OFF the dang light.

The Camry is EXCELLENT, reliable, and relatively economical. The City gas mileage is average, but of course I'm comparing it with the smaller cars I've driven before. On the Highway it's SCARY how little gas it uses!

All the peace of mind of a $50,000 car, but half the price. Not as stylish as a Lexus or a Mercedes Benz, just a GREAT VALUE!

1997 Toyota Camry LE 4 c;ylinder

Summary:

It is worth the extra money to get Toyota quality

Faults:

I have had no problems so far.

General Comments:

This is a comfortable car to ride in, the interior is quiet at speed, and the gas mileage is about 24 mpg in town, 30 on the highway. It's not a great handling car, as the suspension is soft, but it's not dangerous. It always has been reliable and seems bulletproof. I do, however, take car of my cars!

Excellent car I have a 1999 model no problems whatsoever after 2 years.

1997 Toyota Camry XE V6

Summary:

What a joke!

Faults:

I have always owned Toyota's in fact my Camry is my forth Toyota, but let me tell you it has been a very costly ownership! My car has had an impeccable service record and had had an average of 10000 miles per year. Just over a week ago shortly after it had its 60000 miles service, it start having valves issues. I took my Camry to a dealer to be serviced so there should have been no issues regarding poor service. The moral to the story is that I had to pay 3000.00 in repairs for a car that I hardly even drive! I was over a 1000 miles on my warranty and I contacted Toyota Corp with a complaint and all I got was a letter of apology! Think twice before you buy a Camry!

General Comments:

Camry is not as reliable as you think it is! I have spent over four thousand dollars in repairs averaging only 10000 a year! My Camry is only six years old and well taking care of.

I've noticed that for some unlucky car owners, the number of repair problems they experience is directly proportional to the number of times they take their car to their mechanic. I have an '87 Camry, 300,000 km+ and do most of the maintenance myself (excellent car). I got help once with the timing belt. I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence or if I was being setup, but some odd problems were soon to follow. You may want to change repair shops and/or look over any work done (hint: if the work was done under the hood, check something unrelated like rear brake adjustment). If you find your otherwise dependable car suddenly has a rash of problems, don't always assume it's the car's fault.

Instead of dishing out $4000, you should have just bought a JDM motor that has super low miles on it. If you're selling it then email me ghandthoji@hotmail.com.

I have heard it all. Your Toyota breaks down and of course the car is "superior" so it either has to be your fault for poorly maintaining it or your mechanic must have sabotaged the car. People need to wake up and realize that Toyotas break just like any other car. In fact, more so than many.

19:21, No, not more so than many. Actually, the correct answer is 'less than anything else'. Except maybe Honda.
