1998 Toyota Camry LE 2.4

Summary:

The Camry is a good family car, but not as trouble-free as I expected

Faults:

Water pump had to be replaced under warranty at 38,832 (was leaking).

Front Brakes are very noisy - They make a grinding sound when braking moderately hard. Had it checked out at around 35,000 - Toyota said there was no problem - I later found out there is a flaw in the brake design. On the plus side the noise stopped after a while (few years) and the brakes lasted for 70,000.

Front O2 Sensor went at 65,270.

General Comments:

I've had some problems with the car as noted above - more than I expected from a Camry.

Even though I've had some problems I still consider the car to be very reliable. It's never stranded us.

It's very comfortable, has a great ride, handles decently and is very easy to work on (oil changes are a breeze).

Also it's a great family car - we use it for long trips and my wife ferries my two young boys around town in it.

1998 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder

Summary:

Made with quality and value

Faults:

The car doesn't start up on the first try on cold days or early mornings. It eventually starts with no consequence.

My transmission grinds slightly when I haven't driven the car for hours and when I put it in reverse.

Seats are a bit uncomfortable after long drives.

Steering wheel wears badly.

General Comments:

I respect my car much more as the years and miles pass by.

The Camry is a quality, but boring, car.

So I added a new sound system, pin striping, glow gauges and 2004 Toyota 16" rims to enhance an average everyday car.

I would buy a Toyota again if I find a luxury sport style sedan that I would feel comfortable with in the long run.

I just bought a 1998 Toyota Camry. I love it. It runs great and I know that I made the right choice when I decided to buy a Camry. I also feel that it looks better than the newer models. I understand that no car is perfect, but my Camry comes pretty darn close.

Thank You.

1998 Toyota Camry CE 2.2 litre

Summary:

It's the best decision I have ever made

Faults:

Since I have had this car, nothing has gone wrong with it.

The only things you have to do to keep this car with it's excellent performance is to get an oil change on time, keep the tires from wear, battery up to date, and let the Camry do the rest as it takes you on an unforgettable drive.

General Comments:

This car runs very fast and has the best handling.

The interior is amazingly nice and comfortable.

The trunk in the car is very spacious for more carrying capacity.

This car is available with fully automatic features.

The car is equipped with the best speakers and sound in the market!

1998 Toyota Camry CE 2.2

Summary:

Incredible quality and design

Faults:

I just replaced the front brakes and rotors for the FIRST time. The rears are original and are still serviceable.

I replaced the clutch at 220,000 km.

The exhaust system is original and is still within specs.

There have been no other repairs needed.

General Comments:

I commute 150 km per day and have done so for the six years I've owned it.

Its comfortable, handles well on the twisty roads I drive daily.

This is the best car I have ever had. Period. I will buy nothing, but Toyota in the future (if this one ever wears out).

This is additional to the entry I made originally - my Camry now has 294,000 km on it and everything I said before still holds. I'm STILL on the original rear brakes. I'm still on the original exhaust system.

The one area where she's showing her age now is in the suspension - it's getting loose. This is not surprising as a lot of our driving is on gravel country roads with the constant potholes. I've been gradually spending money in this area (not cheap!) to bring it back to specs.

Still the best car I have ever had.

This is a further update to my original two submissions. This car now has 340,000 km on it and has still not given any trouble. I had to replace the front brakes again, BUT AM STILL ON THE ORIGINAL REARS. No other repairs have been necessary except for normal regular oil changes and lube, etc.

Still the best car I´ve ever owned. I´m blown away.
