SCARY SPIN-OUT BECAUSE OF AN EMERGENCY BRAKING!!!
I just bought my 1999 Camry LE, with 133,000 miles on it. I was driving home on the highway... and a truck came into my lane forcing me to brake quickly.
The car spun 180 degrees around and I wound up on the highway facing traffic.
I'm VERY lucky that I had a second or two to get over to the median ---still facing the wrong way ---before the next oncoming vehicle.
It was a scary experience... as that has never happened before. What do you recommend I have checked out before I put the car on the road again?
Has this ever happened to any of you experienced Camry owners?
General Comments:
I am worried about this car and spinning out.
Any advice will be appreciated re: my checking out brakes and tires and anything else which may be related.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Yes, I have some advise for you. Don't turn the wheel and pull the emergency brake. It will cause the car and any car to spin.

I doubt she was pulling the emergency brake. Are you (the comment above me) here to add anything to the discussion, or just make trouble?
If a truck came into her lane, there was certainly wheel turn involved in addition to braking, and the situation she described could certainly happen with (no disrespect to the reviewer intended) improper emergency avoidance maneuvers. Yet, it is wise to have the brakes checked out anyway, just to be safe.
ABS is not essential if (again no disrespect to anyone intended) you know how to handle the brakes in an emergency situation. I do not buy vehicles with ABS because I like to have complete control over how my brakes are applied. But, ABS is a fantastic safety feature if you do not know or do not wish to worry about proper panic braking procedures.

Or not having ABS or on wet pavement or overcorrection etc etc etc. in an emergency situation.
