I had a '80 Celica ST coupe and it was awesome. I loved the car for the whole time I had it and only had minor problems with it like the thermostat, fuel pump and exhaust. It got rear-ended once and had little damage and then shortly after that it got side swiped by a dump truck while parked which took out the drivers rear quarter. It was really nice before that. It was a fast and smooth runner (used to cruise at 90 on the highway and it would turn 4,000 RPM's in 5th all day long). I actually beat a Mustang Cobra II way back when, but I think I was just out shifting the other driver! I could spin the tires into second gear pretty easily though. I traded it for a brand new 5.0 Mustang so I didn't miss it for long!!

1980 Toyota Celica GT 2.2L 20-R

Summary:

Good quality for a good price

Faults:

Replaced fuel pump when purchased.

Needed to lubricate ignition cylinder, was sticking.

Clutch cylinder leaks.

General Comments:

Extremely reliable vehicle once I got it on the road, nothing major has gone wrong.

Has quite the pick-up for a 4-cylinder engine as I have beaten Mustangs and Camaro's in a 1 KM. drag. Unfortunately, without modifications, top speed is too low.

1980 Toyota Celica GT 2.2 liter

Summary:

I love it and plan to buy another one

Faults:

1. Alternator

2. Starter

3. Burned battery cable

4. Carburetor problem

5. Brake booster

Everything listed above was either damaged, worn out, or in non-working progress at about 92,000 miles.

General Comments:

Considering my 1980 Toyota Celica, I am proud to say that this car have been a outstanding vehicle, fewer problems than my recent vehicle...

My Celica is quick and also powerful. Handles wonderfully, although it does not have power steering.

As far as the cabin, comfortable for my height, vehicle features are within reach, and overall smooth ride...

1980 Toyota Celica GT 2.2L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Awesome 4-6cyl domestic and rice eater, still a little trouble taking down the big V8s though

Faults:

Not much has went wrong with the car.

Break Light Bulb around 70,000.

Master Cylinder around 120,000 (good thing for the e-brake)

The paint was bad because of the salt on the roads, got it repainted around 170,000 miles.

Replaced Fuel Pump at 85,000 miles.

Water pump at 110,000.

Replaced clutch at 150,000 (didn't really need it)

Besides that, just changed the oil every 3,000 miles and new brakes, tires, and clutch fluid.

General Comments:

First of all my car isn't completely stock. I did some modifications a few years after I got it. I put a higher performance exhaust on it, headers, cold air intake, and a peltier. But even without those, the car has a lot of torque, is a very quick and agile 1/8 runner. I never raced anybody when it was in stock form, but with the less than $450 I put in it for performance parts, I've beaten new Civic Si's, Integra GSRs, V6 Mustangs and Camaros, and even my nephews Neon which has some serious mods done to it. Only thing that I've lost to are V8 Firebirds, Mach 1 Stang, and BMW 5 series.

There is no power steering, but you get use to it.

I wouldn't mind an air conditioner.

The front seats are real comfortable, only children can fit in the back seats though.

Wish there was a mirror on the right side.
