1990 Toyota Corolla LE 1.6 4AF-E enigine

Faults:

Not much. In the 3 years I've owned it, I have changed the exhaust for 120$ (my fault), brakes (a lot of brakes), radiator for 100$, and an injector for 20$, when I got it.

The rest doesn't count, such as a door and both front fenders... because of the rust (rust wins on all Toyota's in the 1990's).

General Comments:

I got the car for free; my mother bought a new car and wanted to sell it. So I ended up with it.

The handling was not very good on the sports side, but rather comfortable. The seats were to the limit, OK. Good heating in winter too.

The first I noticed was it lacked a lot of power.. so I ended up putting an aftermarket cone on it. And on the highway, I would take it up to 195 km/h... with the stock filter I barely could reach 160!

The next 3 years have been hell for my Corolla, because I have beaten the crap out of it like you would not believe. Every day it would reach the rev limiter at 6600 RPM, and I could reach 180 km/h in fourth gear... till the rev limiter would kick in.

This car could beat brand new Civic Si's, Protege 5s and Sunfires hands down!

I have never touched the engine or transmission. It just started at -40 degrees and never let me down.

I sold it a few months ago because RUST was everywhere... That's the flaw with Toyotas. My Celica was the same... it ended up with an engine still running and no body left. If it wasn't for the rust, I would still have it. If you can, buy one!!

1990 Toyota Corolla LE

Summary:

The unstoppable chick magnet four door tank

Faults:

Currently the lights have a mind of their own. When I press my brake, all of the interior and parking lights come on. Also, when I have my headlights on, all of my brake lights stay on whether I am pressing the brake or not. At least I'm not going to get pulled over for a brake light being out eh?

Also one of the rear windows makes a horrible screeching sound when rolling it up or down. My brother has a 1997 Corolla and his does the same.

Other than routine maintenance such as new timing belt and brakes, nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

The corolla is a friggin' tank. Nothing can stop it. It has been in at least two wrecks that we know of and it still runs like a champ. It was rear ended twice. The first time we fixed it and the second I didn't bother because it wouldn't make that big of a difference in the resale value. So I just took the money and went to Vegas.

As for performance, I drive like a 78 year old woman so I don't really care about that. But sometimes I do wish I had my '89 Celica back.

Your brake lights stay on all the time?

NO wonder you got rearended twice.

Hard to understand how this car could be a "chick magnet" by any known definition of the term.

My Corolla the temp light would come on when the alt light came on, but I have seen older Toyota trucks the the oil light would come on when you opened the door. As for being a chick magnet, maybe the people rear ending him were chicks.

1990 Toyota Corolla SE Silver Anniversary Edition 1.6

Summary:

It musta been built on a Monday or Friday!

Faults:

Power Steering Pump@ 70,000.

Moon Roof rusted excessively.

Engine Started overheating and finally perished at 140,000.

A/C was plagued with problems.

Trunk leaked forever.

General Comments:

My whole family drives Toyotas, my brothers both have 4Runners and swear by them. Both their 4Runners have gotten over 300,000 and they can't believe my engine died at 140,000. This car was issued in two tone grey and silver for the anniversary edition and looked very sharp!Anyway, I bought a Camry and I love it-it runs great!
