Faults:

The front drive axle CV boots tend to fail about every three years, but they are relatively simple to replace.

Like most cars with catalytic converters, it tends to eat mufflers about every two or three years since the cat puts out quite a bit of water.

General Comments:

This car is the most reliable machine I have ever owned. In ten years of ownership, it has NEVER broken down or left me stranded.

The engine is relatively simple and easy to work on (except for replacing the water pump - you must unbolt the engine and raise it about five inches to get enough clearance to remove the pump). I still am on the original fuel pump, power steering pump, and a number of other components.

The interior is still intact and in good condition - the materials used are of high quality and there are no tears or splits anywhere.

I have owned several cars that I have put a quarter-million miles or more on (1975 Chevy Monte Carlo, 1973 Volkswagen Beetle), but this car just keeps on going!

Faults:

Nothing critical has gone wrong with the car. My parents hit a deer with it, but that's hardy my car's fault.

The oil light come on all the time, but that's not a big deal.

One thing that needs attention is the aluminum rims. You have to keep an eye on them and make sure the pressure is adequate on all the tires. They need touching up every now and then.

Being that the car is old, the charging belt (alternator belt?) went last year (2002). My battery ran dry because the belt wasn't catching. It was normal wear and tear, and was easy to replace.

The tape deck is fried, but I think that's only because it was never used and ceased up.

General Comments:

This car has been a reliable car to me. Nothing major has needed replacing, and the engine simply won't quit.

It's a great starter car for college students because the engine is well labeled and even a 20-year-old girl like myself can do simple maintenance on it.

Faults:

Air Conditioning needed fixing at 155,324 miles.

Side Arm rest is broken.

Timing belt slipping at 150,214 miles.

General Comments:

It is a great all around car with low maintenance. However this car has good gas mileage, and good all around performance. Very roomy for it's size. Very fun to drive.

Faults:

Nothing!

Just replacing normal wear items such as tires and brakes.

General Comments:

I wish all cars were as reliable as the 6th generation Toyota Corolla. There would be a lot less junkyards and much more green earth.

The new Corollas are nice (mini-Lexus) and probably very reliable, but I don't know if they could ever be as reliable as the 6th generation (88-92). The 6th gen. was much simpler in construction.

Comfort and NVH is only mediocre, but probably not bad by economy car standards in the early 90's.

Front seats have plenty of room.

Performance rivals that of a glacier.

I wish this car had a 5 speed manual or at least a bigger engine and a 4 speed automatic. 1.6 liter engine with a 3 spd auto is a performance disaster. However, it does keep its speed climbing hills though.

Great for hauling the dogs around in the wagon body without destroying the simple, but durable interior.

Car is extremely durable, only thing that is falling apart is the dashboard. The dashboard has been subjected to 13 years of Arizona heat and is cracking. The paint is still good, unheard of any 13 year-old car in Arizona.

I can't see why the US makers cannot make a car this durable and reliable. It shouldn't be that difficult.

They are doing better, though.
