1993 Toyota Corolla LX

Faults:

Frozen left front brake caliper.

Clutch wore out.

Dash lights burned out.

General Comments:

For years I fought myself over buying Japanese cars. I owned Volvos and Mercedes, and loved to hate them. They broke the bank far too often.

As for my well used 93 Corolla wagon; I bought it at a car auction for $850.00.

Well I am a Corolla believer. Not all Toyotas are faultless. Certain years have bad aluminum heads/blocks and faulty transmissions. But comparing them to cars offered by other automakers, they have a really admirable track record.

My Corolla wagon is as boring as an English butler, but that's where it ends.

Its headroom is made for tall people. I'm 6'4" and there still is 4 or 5 inches to spare. The seats are supportive and more comfortable than they should be.

The drive-ability is really good and the brakes are too.

35.4 MPG. I love it. It's a trusted friend, my Corolla.

If you got 4-5 inches above your 6'4" head, you must have the seat reclined at 45 degrees or greater/gangster.

1993 Toyota Corolla LE 1.8L

Summary:

Reliable

Faults:

Starter replaced at ~115K.

General Comments:

Bulletproof. This car was beaten the hell out of (but was maintained) and its still running strong. My fuel economy is OK (prolly b/c of my mis-aligned front end due to aftermarket springs)... get about 24mpg hardcore city miles (sitting in traffic for long times).

Not bad for $1500! (lasted me 5 years!)

1993 Toyota Corolla

Summary:

Best car ever!

Faults:

Had to replace oil sensor at 215k.

Hit a rock in the road, and had to replace the struts and strut mounts.

General Comments:

Excellent commuter car, I always feel safe while driving it.

Could use a little more power, especially going uphill.

If you go for a Corolla as your next car, try to find either the 1.8 liter engine with the 4 speed auto or go for a manual shift transmission.

1993 Toyota Corolla dx 1.8

Summary:

Great car

Faults:

The pass side door handle broke.

General Comments:

I got the car for free because the previous owner would not get anything for a trade in because of the high mileage. I originally figured I would use the car in the winter to keep the miles off my 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 truck. With over 200,000 miles on it I didn't think it would last long. I have been driving the car back and forth to work everyday (450 miles a week) without any problems. I currently have 241,000 miles on it and consider getting rid of my truck and buying a newer Toyota corolla. It get 35MPG and with gas prices of $3.00/gallon its cheap to drive compared to the 17MGP I get in the truck. The only money I have dumped into it was on brake pads, a battery, and a tune up.

Don't give up your 1993 Corolla.. This is the best year Toyota manufactured the Corolla... I had one up until last year (2005) and sold for $1500 with 175,000 miles.. Keep it, I heard someone saying it could last up to 400K miles.

1993 Toyota Corolla 1.5

Summary:

The most reliable/dependable car in the world!!!

Faults:

Water Pump at 155,000.

Brakes at 160,000.

Outside of normal wear & tear NOTHING!!

General Comments:

I must agree with the majority of those who have left positive feedback in regard to the outstanding reliability that is behind the Toyota name.

I was a desperate college student in need of a reliable/dependable car to get me back and forth from school to home. I purchased my corolla with 155,000 miles on it!!! Still today this baby is running strong, it's caused no problems and $ 10 gets me through the week.(over 30 mpg) My girlfriend has one too and her car has 260,000 miles on it and shows no signs of stopping. If you’re looking for a dependable car that is maintenance free and has the best fuel efficiency. LOOK NO FURTHER.
