1995 Toyota Corolla DX 1.8 Liter

Summary:

Reliable, from point A to point B, nothing more..

Faults:

Nothing major, considering I bought it 12 yrs old and with 116000 miles on it.

Front brakes and pads replaced.

Radiator replaced.

Starter replaced.

General Comments:

For the first car you want find anything better. Performance OK, I've spent 500-600 dollars on this car over last year. After a long ride it's become very uncomfortable and boring... especially when you're more than 6' tall.

I would like more foot space in it, and more power... in the mountains you have to use 3rd gear all the time.. and it makes so much noise while driving. Toyota very reliable, but if you want to have some fun to drive - don't buy it.

1995 Toyota Corolla DX 1.6L GAS

Summary:

Reliable

Faults:

I bought this car in January 2008 and the only thing I have had to put on it so far is 4 tires and had to get the A/C recharged. Other than that, nothing has gone wrong with it!

General Comments:

I bought this car in Jan of 2008 with 182072km on it. I wanted to buy a Toyota Corolla because I read on this site and other sites that Corollas are very reliable.

Over the year I owned the car, nothing has gone wrong and I have taken it on 2 long trips and put about 25000km on it! The performance isn't the best, but what can you expect from a 1.6L?

The car starts great in -20C Canadian winter. The car also gets awesome fuel mileage on the highway. I'm getting close to 32MPG or over on the highway. And it is cheaper to fill up when gas is over $1/L compared to some of these domestic cars. I can easily expect this car to last me 5 years.

1995 Toyota Corolla DX 1.8 Litre

Summary:

Possibly the best little car ever made.

Faults:

At 9 years old it had a small leak from the a/c condenser. I replaced it with one from a salvage yard costing $54 and installed it myself without difficulty. I had no prior experience with this type of work. I then recharged it with R134a refrigerant from a retail store (cost $6). It is now 13 years old and the a/c still works great.

Replaced the left front spindle at 225,000 miles for a cost of $94.

I had to replace the right front axle at 250,000 miles for about $120.

General Comments:

This car has performed exceptionally well and I expect to drive it to 500,000 miles or more. It is currently at 282,000 miles and runs like a top.

Fuel economy is outstanding. I repeatedly check it and find that highway speeds between 55 and 65 miles per hour result in fuel economy exceeding 40 miles per gallon. At varying speeds on a two lane road trip recently it calculated at 38 miles per gallon.

Operating the a/c does not seem to appreciably affect the vehicle performance, but it does have a small affect.

The transmission is automatic and has had NO servicing or repair and shows no indication that it will ever need it. Outstanding for a car approaching 300,000 miles.

I am the author of this review and I am writing this as an update. This car is now about to turn 324,000 miles. It is still running great.

At 320,000 miles I replaced the distributor for $200 and at 323,000 I had a pulley idler replaced for $73. This car continues to be fantastic. I'm still expecting to make it to 500,000 miles or more. :)

1995 Toyota Corolla DX but title says its LE 1.8 DOHC

Summary:

Go for the Honda accord!!!

Faults:

The power steering used to leak a lot, but I figure it out it was one of the hoses.

Power steering leaking again loose bolt on the hose no more leaking.

It used to have a water leak, spent 3 bucks with silicone and re-sealed the trunk, now its fine.

It needs alignment, the tire on the driver side is bald and other side its half way.

The seats are horrible, way too soft.

General Comments:

I only bought this car since it has the best miles to the gallon (32+++ miles to the gallon) and for its reliability. It has done its job.

The cabin is dime sized I do not feel comfortable in this car.

The seats are way too low and the doors, dash, hood line way too high. My accord is a lot better has twice the mileage, seats are like a brand new car and the engine is so much powerful.

I drive this car very aggressively and it has never overheated or broken down, but underpowered.

Do not turn the AC on unless you don't mind someone flipping you off for being under the speed limit (it happened to me).

I am the original poster and I have compared both because their value are about the same, but not for the year (1992 accord vs 1995 corolla)
