1978 Toyota Corona

Summary:

Good car for it's age

Faults:

Brakes went out twice.

Oil pump went out.

Fuel pump went out.

General Comments:

This was overall a great car, it was my first vehicle and for being a 1978 purchased in 1996, it had low mileage and was very reliable. The stuff that was a problem on it come to be expected for a car, that at the time was a year older than me. It generally started right up, even in the winter, had good pick up and traveled all over for long distances with no problem.

1987 Toyota Corona SR5 1.6

Summary:

Unbelievably Reliable!

Faults:

Minor repairs, timing chain, new brake linings, tires, battery.

General Comments:

This is the most reliable car we have ever owned. I would give Toyota 11 stars instead of 10 if possible. This car is great on gas and we have traveled all over the country without a problem. It is used daily. It handles great and can keep up with the best of them. I wish I could find another one just like it. I rate Toyota as one of the top 3 auto makers in the world. Ferrari and Mercedes being the others.

1976 Toyota Corona basic model 4 cylinder

Summary:

Economic Rally Wonder

Faults:

Nothing serious. Typical maintenence. I always felt that Toyota kinda crapped out when it came to the audio systems. Alternator went after about 200,000 miles. I suppose I overloaded it with the rally lights I added. After I started rallying with the car, more and more things went wrong, certainly not the cars fault, I mean it was an economic car so it wasn't exactly built to race.

General Comments:

Great car from day one. All it requires is a nice set of wheels, a GT racing stripe and a better sound system and your set for a while. I did A LOT of work to get it up to rally standards. Reworked it to 4WD and made a few engine modifications. Fast little thing from day one. Had a rust problem at one point, but a little bodywork fixed that. Terrific car.

I will be getting a corona 76 too with a 13T engine. I'm still not sure if that would give the torque I need for my car. got any setups that you could recommend? you can email me at galingan2002@yahoo.com. Thanks.
