2000 Toyota Echo 1.5 VVTi

Summary:

Cheap and very reliable gasoline sipper

Faults:

Oxygen sensor replaced at about 104,000 miles.

Stereo quit working because there was a shorted terminal on one of the speakers in the back.

Has a squeaking noise on mild acceleration, sounds like a belt, but replaced both belts and didn't go away.

General Comments:

Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

I haven't had to do ANYTHING to this car except change the oil and plugs. I put a synthetic oil in it, and change the filter at 3K, and both filter and oil at 6K, and it runs as smooth and well as it did at 100,000 miles.

Being and automatic, it probably doesn't get as good of gasoline mileage as a standard would, but I get about 41 on a highway trip, and about 30 in city driving conditions.

2000 Toyota Echo 1.5L

Summary:

A step in the right direction for a greener future

Faults:

Nothing, completely untouched.

General Comments:

I just purchased this Toyota Echo for 3000$ CDN. It had about 172,000 km on it, and what do you know... it purrs like a brand new Toyota.

I never really gave much of an eye for this car; my mother owns an automatic Echo and I drove it, but it never got my attention.

But now that I have my own, I am beyond thrilled, I put in 10$ of gas 3 days ago and have been trolling about in this very firm car, it wasn't till today that I realized that the gas indicator hasn't budged at all.

My only complaint for the Echo is that Toyota did not release the 80 hp model in North America; us Canadians have a lot of tires spinning on winter mornings :)

2000 Toyota Echo Sport 1.5 petrol

Summary:

Affordable, reliable car for tough economic times!

Faults:

Nothing yet!

General Comments:

We purchased the car from 'Grandma' so we knew the history.

Great little commuter with amazing gas mileage. Around town we average 40mpg, and on a trip from Eastern Ontario to Lake Huron we managed 52 mpg.

Huge on the inside with tons of headroom.

We have the 'sport model' with the rear spoiler and side skirts.

Gets blown around on the highway in windy conditions due to the height and weight of the car. Put some decent snow tires on in the winter and it's good to go.

2000 Toyota Echo Base 1.5L

Summary:

Fantastic commuter car

Faults:

Nothing so far. Have to keep the serpentine belt very tight, so as to not make noise with the A/C on.

Tire/road noise more than I expected.

General Comments:

Like the ride, better than expected.

Excellent on gas, great economy car, very easy to drive.

Very poor driver's seat; hard and uncomfortable on long trips. It needs a seat that has an adjustable bottom and a little longer bottom.

Need to have the steering wheel come further away from dash, have to have the seat too straight up.

This seems to be a great little car in general, except for the driver's position!!

2000 Toyota Echo 1.5L 1NZ-FE VVT-i

Summary:

Great little car that quickly accelerates past gas stations

Faults:

O2 sensor failed as I left the dealership. Dealer replaced at no cost after a two week wait on a back-ordered sensor.

Stereo shorted out with car off, draining the battery. Dealer replaced with salvaged stock stereo.

General Comments:

Good power to weight ratio, resulting in an impressive acceleration rate for such a small engine.

Great gasoline mileage. Have gotten 43mpg on highway.

Vehicle seems to be designed with practicality in mind; minimal frills, a fun car to drive.

Due to its size and weight, the vehicle is wind sensitive.

I love my echo dearly. Wow I get 44 MPG combined city highway and about 40 city. I have not taken it out on the open highway yet. But I love it so far!

2000 Toyota Echo 1.6

Summary:

Pure quality and excellence

Faults:

Water pump went off at 90,000km

CD player died at 110,000 km.

General Comments:

This car is excellent specially if you do a lot of city driving. Very cheap to maintain and cheap on gas. After having Mazda 626 and fixing it every month this small Echo surprised me how it is reliable and cheap on gas.
