1996 Toyota Paseo 1.5L
Summary:
Trooper of a car
Faults:
180,000 miles - rear shocks changed (rear right shock retainer grommet wore out).
200,000 miles - thermostat changed & oil pan gasket (sealant paste) redone.
Small electrical fixes here and there (bulbs, fuses etc.)
General Comments:
From a reliability and affordability of upkeep, this car is absolutely superb. I put over 85k miles on the car in 1.5 years with no major maintenance work needed. It had a lot of miles to begin with, but never once did the car leave me stranded anywhere or hesitated to start. I never felt "unsure" about taking it on long trips. It was my daily driver for a 180 mile round trip commute and I was never late to work (because of the car anyways :) )
It definitely isn't a performance car by any means, but it's still fun to drive in its own way. I consider the fuel economy very good: 34-35 MPG on the highway at an average of 70-75 mph.
Everything was blissful until I rear ended a Jeep Compass several months ago and the front end was badly injured. The poor little fellow would still run.
This car is the reason why I developed an affinity for Toyotas.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
