Faults:

Initially when I received the car it had a starter problem, with a rebuilt one on a warranty from a deal you replace them every 6 months of daily driving, dealer part no. more use. Common Toyota quality. Also leaky front window in the passenger corner window down to the floor along side a/c vents. Rust interior minimal and exterior moderate.

General Comments:

Not much of a looker, but the engine and transmission side excellent, the block and head was well put together. If you find one keep that engine 22r it will never die. I totaled my car and it still drove, when I cranked it, didnt overheat after the wreck or anything .Thanks to the nice happy starter. With general part maintinence this car could treat anybody good.

Faults:

Blown head gasket at 253000 miles. My neighbor gave me the truck so I'm in the process of cleaning the motor before removing the head. My son is suppose to help and learn on this project, but will vanish often. He really is missing out when it comes to working on a great motor. I hope the motor will hold out for awhile and if it don't my son can help with the rebuild too!

General Comments:

Love the basic functions that still work.

Faults:

Replaced timing chain at 185000 miles.

Replaced clutch at 200000.

Replaced two water pumps and two fuel pumps.

General Comments:

This little pickup truck is nearly indestructible. I bought it in High School from its orginal owner with 170000 miles. It being my first vehicle and all, I have driven it as hard as a young kid could, but it has always handled anything I could dish out. It has survived numurous 5 plus hour drives over mountain passes while traveling back and forth from college.

I've hauled, I've towed, I've raced, I've crashed, and never once has the 22R failed me.

When I purchased the car the body was in near perfect condition. Now... it truly looks like a heap of ****, but it still sits in my driveway and gets me to work everyday.

Every time I think its had enough abuse for its lifetime, it proves me wrong and lasts another year.

Faults:

2 water pumps, an alternator and various other expendables (belts, hoses brake linings etc).

General Comments:

This truck survived floods, snow storms, 112 degree vacation trips, overweight cargo loads, and a teenage punk-ass son who got into some crap with low-lifes who broke out my windows & door locks and stole a cheap radio. Yet it drives today @ 70mph with ease! I now drive a 97 Tacoma with Auto trans and carpet and AM/FM (I'm a slave to luxury, forgive me!). Oh the 83?. Still in the driveway ready to go! I'm giving it a well deserved R&R.

Faults:

Alternator replaced.

Smog control valve replaced.

Timing chain replaced.

Transmission rebuilt.

General Comments:

The original engine and transmission went 350,000 miles and were then rebuilt. The shop doing it screwed both up, necessitiang the later timing chain and transmission rebuilds.

With those initial problems corrected, this truck has proven to be bulletproof. I bought it back in '99 to take a trip to Alaska. We went from San Diego to Prudhoe Bay and back with nothing more than a flat tire to interrupt the trip.

It's not the quickest or smoothest riding vehicle on the road, but it more than makes up for it with outstanding reliability, incredible ruggedness and surprising comfort (the bucket seats on the SR5 are great). I really like this truck, and am looking forward to driving it another 400,000 miles.
