1989 Toyota Pickup standard cab 22r 4cyc

Faults:

Replaced the timing chain, followers, and timing cover at 124000 miles.

Replaced the fuel pump at 150000 miles.

Just put 4 new shocks on at 180000 miles.

No other major repairs to date other than wear items such as brakes, tires, oil changes, ect.

General Comments:

I love this little truck. I drive 100 miles per day to, and from work and it has yet to leave me on the roadside.

I have used this truck to haul everything from gravel, to lumber, to scrap steel, and everything in between. It just keeps on going.

The lack of a 5 speed hurts the gas mileage a bit, but I still get 27-30 MPG on the highway.

1989 Toyota Pickup 2wd 2.4 liter

Summary:

This truck is the best car on earth

Faults:

I have had absolutely no problems with this truck mechanically, everything runs great. This car is 16 years old and only has 50,000 miles on it. It runs like a champ. I will never get rid of it. I ran off the highway at 65 miles an hour and the front fender broke off, but it still runs so nice.

General Comments:

The interior of the truck is all leather, I installed a CD player and some speaker because the stock speakers blew. The transmission shifts like it just came off the lot. Everything is perfect.

1989 Toyota Pickup 2.4

Summary:

I'm a Chevy guy by heart, but toyotas run forever

Faults:

Due to low mileage not much has gone wrong with the truck.

The only problem to note recently is the engine light is on. Previous owner said it was the oxygen sensor. Does anyone have the same problem and found the oxygen sensor to be culprit. It doesn't seem to affect the performance or gas mileage. The rear suspension is saggy and needs some helper springs, or air bags. I live in Canada which hurts most Toyota's. Mine has been undercoated yearly and is still solid.

General Comments:

The truck is tough. It handles the road well has lots of power. But the automatic, downshifts to hard and it feels like the engine is going to come out of the hood. I would have preferred a 5 speed. Toyota comfort is hard to beat.

I have this same problem. I've had the code read and it is the oxygen sensor. It should not affect your driving, so if the engine light doesn't bother you, there's no need to rush to fix it.

1989 Toyota Pickup Sr5 ext cab 4 wd 3.0L

Faults:

Clutch went out at 170,000 miles.

Brakes changed only twice.

Muffler went out at 180,000 miles.

Radiator went out at 235,000 miles.

Stock spark plug wires just went out at 244,700.

General Comments:

This truck was bought by my dad brand new.

He just gave it to me last year and it still runs like a champ.

Inside and out still look brand new, except a little wear on the driver seat.

Everything on this truck is stock, except tires.

This truck didn't give my dad one problem up to 150,000 miles not one.

Engine still runs and sounds new.

All lights, inside lights, dash lights, power mirrors, still work.

This truck has 248,000 miles and I think its ready for another 248,000 easy.

No truck will ever be more reliable than this truck if there is I'm sure it's a toyota.

1989 Toyota Pickup SR5 XCAB 3.0 V6

Summary:

For overall reliability, price, performance, longevity, and economy, I couldn't have bought better

Faults:

I have replaced the coil three times in the past five years most likely because I've used after-market replacement coils.

I replaced the alternater three years ago.

I replaced the clutch-pedal mount-bracket six months ago.

The interior fan has stopped working on the two lowest settings.

The water pump was replaced in 1992 due to a minor manufacturer defect but it still worked fine.

General Comments:

This pickup truck has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever known.

With the exception of the coil, alternator, clutch pedal bracket, water pump, brake pads, timing belt, drive belts, fluids, tires, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, distributor rotor, windshield, and headlights, everything in this pickup, including the clutch, is original equipment.

This truck has 373,000 miles on it and it currently achieves slightly over 30 miles per gallon of gas on the highway.

The highway mileage specification of this truck, when it was new, was 27 miles per gallon.

Nothing has been overhauled, including the engine.

The long wheelbase gives it a very smooth ride and it handles corners with ease.

This truck is a two-wheel-drive pickup.

This truck is equipped with nothing, but stock parts.

This truck still has very impressive engine performance.

Described as "a sports-car with a bed", this specific pickup model was the Motor Trend truck of the year.

I once towed a 1982 Chevy Silverado truck a distance of approximately 130 miles with this pickup and did so with relative ease.

I will keep this pickup for as long as it is drivable, which I expect will be a long time yet to come.

I own the same pickup with 252.000km. Never had such a good vehicle. Had to replace the stick shift nylon or Teflon connecting to the transmission. Very expensive, but normal wear with mostly city driving. A very good truck.

I own an 08 Matrix & an 06 Corolla, so I guess I'm a Toyota fan.

That little Teflon ring, which attaches the shifter, is like $5-$7 bucks, & takes about 30 minutes to replace the first time.

The clutch mount bracket, can be fixed with a couple of metal washers & welded. Maybe 20 minutes. My repair has lasted 150k, cost zero. I could see spending $300 for a bracket. P.s. it was repaired in place. Works fine.
