2005 Toyota RAV4 Chili 2.4

Summary:

Get an extended warranty

Faults:

Bought a 2005 Toyota Rav 4 Chili edition, and have only had it a couple of months, and the transmission is gone. Told it will be $6000.00 to fix; thankfully I got the extended warranty, so it will be covered.

Apparently the computer that tells the transmission what to do has had problems, and Toyota never did a recall for this.

Not sure if I like this vehicle - not as fun to drive as my Focus ZX5 (no problems at 80 k, but got written off for hail damage).

If you buy a older Rav 4, make sure you get extended warranty - you will need it.

"If you buy a older Rav 4, make sure you get extended warranty - you will need it."

If you buy ANY older car with 70K miles on it and you have no idea of its history, it is a good idea to get a warranty on it. Sounds like this car may have been used for a little more than it was rated for. I haven't heard of too many tranny problems on these trucks.

2005 Toyota RAV4

Summary:

Very economical and reliable

General Comments:

Fairly comfortable.

Interior noise is acceptable. In the city, it's quiet. But on the highway or when driving at faster speeds, interior noise is somewhat significant, to the point where it's slightly too noisy to listen to the radio comfortably (I assume most cars within this price range are about the same though).

Has been extremely reliable. Nothing needed with the exception of regular maintenance.

Not the most spacious SUV. Backseat can be a little bit tight for 3 passengers. Leg space is OK. Trunk space is decent, and newer models have even larger trunk space.

2005 Toyota RAV4 l 2.4

Summary:

Great short range grocery getter

Faults:

Leather disintegrated on driver seat, that's all.

General Comments:

Size is great! That's the best part! Very nice in town as it's easy to park and get around on. Like driving a go-cart. Lotsa poop in town. Does fine on the highway as long as you let it scream.

Lousy ergonomics if you have to go for long. Nothing really fits, weird distances to the controls and rests. Seat like a brick.

Very noisy inside, all these tin cans are, but it was quieter than the Escape we tried. Helped out when we replaced the tires with softer ones.

Nothing special for fuel mileage, maybe as good as the rest, but have never got over 32 cnd on long highway trips.

Poor on twisty mountain roads in winter, doesn't like to turn on slippery surfaces at speed, but that's because of the AWD, and it's typical as you can't use the throttle to turn. Putter along and it's fine. Great getting around town though in the snow and ice. Great short range vehicle!
