2007 Toyota RAV4 V6

Summary:

This car is not what Toyota wants people to have, but is becoming more common

Faults:

The RAV4 came well equipped. I liked the power windows, until the switches caught on fire while the car was driving, without any warning.

The driver’s window emits a loud pop every time that the window is fully rolled down.

The air bag light came on at 20,000 miles.

The car goes thru a starter every 6 months, even when it is replaced with a Toyota part.

Every summer, when it gets hot, the alternator overcharges the battery, killing the battery. Even when the alternator and battery were replaced, the battery still was over charged.

The 4X4 system shuts of at 25 MPH, and when in use, the whole car shakes.

The seats have worn thru extremely quickly. As have the carpets.

The sill plates, below the bottoms of the doors, but above the rocker panels, all have fallen off.

The front end needed a complete replacement at 36000.

After a complete tune up, doing only highway driving, the car only gets 10 MPG.

General Comments:

The V6 has plenty of power, and drives well, but you pay for that in economy.

There isn't enough room for a 6'3" male to drive the car comfortably.

The car has had it pretty kosher its whole time. I haven’t abused it, maintained regularly, and it keeps having problems. The legendary Toyota reputation is starting to fail, as their products are becoming cheaper.

Sounds like you have a major electrical problem which would account for most of the issues you are having. Who is working on this truck? It seems like they are missing something major when it is fixed.

The 4X4 is supposed to disengage at 25 mph, so that works perfectly. The vehicle is AWD and that is on all the time, but only kicks in when you need it. The 4X4 button is for slow speeds in really bad weather or wherever you may need to crawl along. The manual explains this... or a competent salesman should have like ours.

I have a RAV, and I am 6'3", and it is super comfortable for me. I recently drove it on a 6 hour trip, and was not even the slightest bit fatigued. I was surprised as usually I am hurting after about 3 hours these days, but the driving position and seat material makes a long trip comfortable.

I also have the V6, and I am consistently getting 25 mpg with mixed driving, so if you are at 10 mpg, you have serious problems.

Sorry you got such a lemon. Usually these trucks rate pretty high overall, and they are pretty reliable. I see tons of them driving around. I also know others with them, and they haven't had any issues like fires in the door panels or parts falling off. My cousin has an '07 and it doesn't look worn inside like you are describing. They have two kids even, so you'd think it would. This is an extreme case, and something was fixed improperly for it to be overloading circuits that badly.

Good luck with it!

2007 Toyota RAV4 Limited 4X4 2.4L Inline 4

Summary:

Smooth, comfortable, solid and affordable. All with the peace of mind of Toyota reliability!

Faults:

I don't own the vehicle, I'm borrowing it from a friend of mine, but he (and I) like it so much I figured I'd write a review on it.

The only real problem is that the driver's seat frame and fabric has worn prematurely (my friend, while very nice, is also quite large, so this is understandable.) Otherwise, there have been no problems with the vehicle. And knowing my friend, he definitely has not serviced it at the regular intervals by any means.

General Comments:

I was very surprised by the 4-cylinder this car has. It's amazingly powerful and has plenty of power to keep this thing moving rather easily. I thought that a 4-cylinder on a car this large would be classified as underpowered, but this engine is more than sufficient for this vehicle.

I haven't had the chance to really use the four wheel drive system, but while testing it on a dirt road, it seemed quite confident and had no trouble.

The car feels VERY solid, and rides very comfortably. It rides nice on the highway, floats over the bumps. And on the backroads, it's still stiff enough to give a reasonable amount of driving pleasure.

Lots of interior room. Trunk is big, plenty of legroom, and the headroom is phenomenal.

He bought this RAV4 to replace his last one because it was totaled in an accident. Somebody rear ended it at about 40 MPH. It was still driveable, but the repair costs came to about the same amount as a new car, and he loved that RAV4 so much, he bought another!

When I got him to look at the first RAV4, he was driving a Ford Ranger that was giving him a lot of trouble. He'd been a domestic fan all his life, but I suggested that he give Toyota a try and now he's hooked.
