General Comments:

Best car I have ever owned, bar none!

I have owned 2 VWs, a Plymouth Satellite, a SAAB 99, a Pontiac Fiero GT, an Olds Achieva, a Ford Taurus, a Pontiac Grand Prix, a Honda Civic, a Chevy Corsica, a small Plymouth Arrow truck, and an Acura Integra.

This is one of the best cars ever made. Maintenance costs have been just oil, fluid changes and tires.

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car except to change headlights and brake lights.

General Comments:

This has been a great car. It is very roomy for a coupe. It shocked me when I got in how big it was. I've always driven coupes in the past and had to squeeze people into the back seats. This car fits 4 or 5 adults very easily.

The interior is pleasing with wood trim. Gages are easy to read and ergonomically placed. I've been very pleased with the vehicle with its gas mileage.

The 4-cylinder manual transmission is fun to drive. It isn't terribly quick, but it has decent acceleration.

Overall, I would rate this car a 9 out of 10.

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car yet. The only money I have invested is preventative maintenence.

General Comments:

I am extremely happy with this vehicle. The only thing I can say about it is for four cylinders it does use up quite a bit of gas.

It has great power for only 4 cylinders.

EXTREMELY easy to service.

Very reliable, comfortable, and economical.

Faults:

On delivery:

Clutch chattered, transmission syncros clashed shifting into 3rd gear, brakes were spongy, The 16" alloy wheels had been swapped out for 15" steel wheels w/hubcaps. The steering pulled to the left. I had to hold steering wheel in the 2 o'clock position to keep the car going straight.

The dealer put the correct wheels on the car and fixed the spongy brakes by bleeding them. Nothing else has been fixed after 9 attempts by 2 different dealers.

Eventually, one dealer realigned the steering wheel, but they are unable to prevent the car from pulling to the left. A quick search of the Web reveals that this is a pervasive problem with late model Camrys & Solaras. Officially, Toyota denies that there is a problem. Privately, their mechanics admit that this is the single biggest complaint with these cars.

General Comments:

Alignment Caster & Camber is unadjustable on these cars. Toyota's caster spec is insufficient to keep the cars running straight without considerable driver correction and constant effort.

I drive an assortment of cars. Only the Solara constantly wanders toward the left.

Calls and letters to Customer Support and company executives are a waste of time. They will not acknowledge that the problem even exists.

General Comments:

Wonderful car. The Solara is powerful enough to be fun to drive and quiet enough inside to be a luxurious ride. It's got good looks and brawn.

I love how the car looks and feels like a Lexus, but costs less than a Lexus. There is a lot of room inside for even the biggest of people, and you can put five big people inside this coupe comfortably.
