2005 Toyota Solara SLE Convertible 3.3L V6

Summary:

Never again!

Faults:

I traded a 2002 Totota Solara SLE Convertible in on this 2005 version back in February of this year.

The front wheels pulled to the right.

The top leaked.

The steering felt much too loose. The car felt jittery and highway speeds.

The view out the rear view window was horrible and what ultimately led me to trade the car back in on another 2002 Solara SLE convertible. The blinds spots are enormous.

General Comments:

It has nicely up-dated features.

The 3.3L V6 has more pep.

I like the radio controls on the steering wheel. It's the only feature that I actually miss.

Your car is a Toyota. Toyotas never have any problems. Makes me wonder about the review.

These comments are very helpful! I have been thinking about buying this convertible, but I have a 1994 Toyota that has 146,000 miles and has never been in the shop for anything other than regular maintenance. The body style and paint job are still great! Although I have been lucky with my Toyota, I am not about to make a comment like "Toyotas do not have problems". One needs to educate themselves as a consumer. I am thankful to know about the problems with this car. I may just hang on to what I have and not make a new purchase at this time. Thank you for the information!

2005 Toyota Solara SLE V6

Summary:

I wouldn't buy another!

Faults:

Quality/reliability of wheels, suspension, integrity of the car.

General Comments:

I have owned the Solara SLE for only two months and was involved in a one person "accident" in the rain. I hit the curb at 15 MPH. Apparently the entire wheel, axle, and suspension collapsed. I have been quoted from $6,500 to $12,400 to repair the car. However the dealership will only give me $4,000 as trade-in value for a new one. The MSRP was $28,071. You do the math. Has anyone checked the most recent Consumers Reports estimate for the 2005 Solara's reliability? It stinks.

Ummm... you are flaming Toyota for your one car accident. That seems harsh. The price of parts is high everywhere. Not to lay blame, but if you had full coverage insurance you would only be out the deductible.

Actually, the driver would be out the cost of the collision insurance as well, which is why some of us don't get it. If we knew we'd need it ahead of time, the decision would be easy.
