1986 Toyota Supra Coupe 3.0 non-turbo

Summary:

A reason to take a new look on imports

Faults:

Emergency cable locked up and destroyed brake shoes, a lot of leather fatigue on seats, strange drive train noises.

General Comments:

Being 6'4 I can't comfortably drive most vehicles so my scope is somewhat limited when buying a new car. However, I was astonished when test driving my 86 1/2 supra, it's fast, takes abuse and the comfort features are mind boggling for the year it was produced. I didn't hesitate to immediately add a K&N Fipk system, MSD ignition, Borla exhaust and a killer stereo. The targa roof is also a welcome feature, even though I've owned the car for a short time it is likely that the white rocket will be a fixture in the garage until it moves to my son's in about fifteen years. Many applause to the designers and engineers at Toyota!

1986 Toyota Supra 3.0 non turbo

Summary:

A great car if you get a chance to buy one.

Faults:

The head gaskets blew out and are very expensive to fix.

The valve seals have leaked ever since the head gasket blew out.

The glove box broke.

General Comments:

This is the best car I have ever driven, and I would buy another one in a heartbeat. The supra is really quick to accelerate and handles well. I took good care of it so it still looks really nice, but it is an old car and things are starting to break. If you get one of these cars beware of the head gaskets they are a pain to fix and very expensive, mine cost about 2,000 dollars to fix.

I wrecked it not long ago and don't have the money for the body work, so now I drive a 1983 Honda Accord hatchback.

Did you get big $$$ for the car when you wrecked it? Did you sell the parts quickly? The idea almost crossed my mind when it came time to sell my Supra, but I just didn't have the heart to do it.

No I let my dad trade it in on a newer Jeep since it was in his name at the time.

Dude I blew my engine, and a japanese guy that works on my car for me just gave me a brand new 7m, and now it's completely built, and it's too cold to put it in.
