2005 Toyota Tundra SR5 4.7
Summary:
Sporty, reliable 'half truck'
Faults:
Nothing has really gone wrong with it.
The 1 repair that we had to have done was the block heater was leaking antifreeze at 97,000 miles. Just replaced the seal & it's great to go again!
The recall for the ball joints was taken care of very promptly also by the dealer!
Interior lights have been burning out like crazy though, and the tire sensors have gone crazy. Tire pressure is just as it is supposed to be, but sensor is still on, so we just ignore it.
I will have to admit that the seats are very firm, and not all that comfortable on longer drives (7-8 hr).
It now has a few rattles, but being it has 100,000 miles and been used off road, I'd say it is better than our 2006 Chevrolet 1500 Crew Cab for rattles, but not on comfort (the Chevy is amazingly comfortable).
The paint is not very good on the front bumper (Salsa Red) & has started to just peel off, & now on occasion you will catch a piece flying off while going down highway.
General Comments:
Our Tundra has treated us very well. It has actually never gone back to the Toyota dealer.
The engine is very powerful and very fuel efficient (when mother drives).
The interior lights for climate control and overhead garage door openers have burnt out, and interior is noticeably dark at night now because of that.
The fuel mileage when Mom drives is anywhere from 16 in town to a max of 22.7 on the interstate at 80 mph. When I get a chance to drive it, I take advantage of the power and generally average 13 - 15 mpg.
The comfort (front bench seat with cloth) isn't the greatest on long drives, and it is definitely not really meant to pull anything. The rear suspsension is very soft for a trailer & loading the bed!
Moving my family, we used a 6' x 12' U-Haul and we only could manage about 65 mph on the interstate, & averaged about 11 mpg at the time. The rear of the "truck" sat very low to the ground after loading the U-Haul.
The Tundra has a very good sound system & is actually very stylish. Around here we get all kinds of looks when cleaned up, but I think it may be the Salsa Red paint. The little vents in the back are also very thoughtful on the B-pillars.
Everything inside is located very well though, and don't really ever have to take eyes off the road to change anything.
Would we buy another, yes. Not so sure of the liking of the new body styles right now though, and not really looking to trade this one off, since it's only been in for repairs 2x's & we were given a loaner.
If you are looking for an actual truck to get you down the road, I'd say go with a Ford or a Chevy, as the Toyota doesn't pull a trailer very well compared to our Chevy. If you want a family hauler though for trips, then I'd suggest the Toyota as it gets a lot better mileage on the road than the Chevy does (max of 18.3 @ 65).
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Something does not seem right about this review... After weeks of 150 thread comments I bet someone went down their own road and made their own review. This review just does not seem legit at all. I am no Toyota fan or Tundra driver by any means, but this review has done it for me not to trust anymore Toyota reviews that get posted. I feel sick! And if it is so bad and not anywhere close to the Silverado, why did you buy it!
