Faults:
The front brake rotors wore down at 36,000 miles and needed replacement.
Toe and camber angles of the front wheels needed adjustment. As a result of the improper alignment of the wheels, the tires wore out quickly and needed replacement.
A part of the heating unit in driver's seat began to poke out of the leather causing discomfort.
Timing belt wore out and needed replacement.
Exhaust system broke. The exaust pipes and mufflers corroded and the welds between the muffler and the exaust pipe broke, resulting in a very annoying rattling noise and decreased performance. This was a very expensive repair.
The clutch wore out and needed replacement. This too was a very expensive repair.
General Comments:
I am a fast driver and I'm hard on my cars, but I never neglect them. I wash them and treat the soft-top with soft rags and special soap every time I clean it. I use the best oil, gasoline, coolant, wax, etc.. on the market, so make no mistake, I take good care of my cars, but the VW Cabrio simply has not lived up to my expectations.
The VW Cabrio is a really fun car to drive. Although the engine only creates 115hp and 120 ft. lbs. of torque, it has enough pep to get it going quite quickly.
Steering is tight and responsive.
The car is connected to the road and is easy to drive.
The suspension is plush and if you do any quick driving, you will find yourself lost in the car's pitch and roll.
The interior is well done and looks great.
Trunk space is large considering the smallness of the car and that fact that it's a cabriolet.
Sound quality is good and can easily be heard even when driving top down on the highway.
In conclusion, I really do love the Cabrio, it was fun to be in, fun to drive, and great to look at, but it isn't built well. Take heed when looking at these cars, you will fall in love with one, but in a matter of time, it will break your heart.
