2002 Volkswagen Cabrio GLS

Summary:

Looks cute, but a fiasco on wheels.

Faults:

Both driver and passenger window regulator came loose.

Air pump line leak on power door locks.

Large evaporator system leak.

Cruise control inoperable.

Heated seat lights inoperable.

A/C light inoperable.

Wheel bearing loose.

General Comments:

The car has spent more time in the shop than on the road.

Not only is the dealership a customer service nightmare, but so is the corporate care office.

2002 Volkswagen Cabrio GLS 4.0

Summary:

Cute, fast little car

Faults:

Both driver and passenger side hand rests are peeling.

The computer component in the engine of the car has already been replaced.

The car idles SO loud.

The steering wheel must have something loose because it makes a scratching sound whenever I move it.

Both back tires have already gone flat.

When I open the door when its raining, the water pours in onto the seat, and makes a TERRIBLE water stain which is very hard to remove.

General Comments:

Only the manual has good pick up. The automatic is very sluggish.

I got rear ended and sent into the car in front of me... and the car held up, it's still all in one piece.

The dealership and repair shop are always friendly and nice, no BS, ever!

The car is comfortabale and very stylish.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I also have a 2002 Cabrio GLS and it's very fun to drive. However, there are problems. I agree completely with the review which states the problem of water pouring into the vehicle if it has rained. I leased my Cabrio in Aug of 2002 and it has been in the shop now on 3 times for the check engine light being on. It took 3 trips in the first time to diagnose it as an emissions problem. It was supposedly fixed in November, however it just came on again and is scheduled to go in next week yet again to determine the cause. The engineering of the interior of the car leaves much to be desired. For example: Cup holders which are situated in such a way that they can't actually hold cups. The cup gets wedged under the dashboard and the contents spill onto the console. The glove compartment, which is supposed to hold the owner's manual is not actually big enough to hold the manual. The hook to hang clothing..i.e. dry cleaning is positioned in such a way that anything hanging from it gets caught up in the seat belt and crushed. These aren't things that are a big deal, but they are annoying and you wouldn't notice any of these on a test drive. So much for "superior German engineering."
