1991 Volkswagen GTI 1.8

Summary:

Awesome!

Faults:

Clutch went at 300 000k.

Dash lights went out one day, never found out why.

Headliner was falling down.

Sunroof leaked and healed itself at random.

General Comments:

I absolutely loved it, I found it to be very reliable and took it on 600k+ drives on a regular basis.

The engine had a performance cam in it and it had a lot of power (a lot!!), with the tuned exhaust was a real head turner for a Golf.

It had strange problems that came and went at random, such as a couple times I would be driving down the road and the car would misfire wildly and would not have enough power to continue driving. However if you pulled over, shut the car off and fired it again, this would not happen for 4 more months. Hmm?

The car, even with the wheels aligned properly, would chew through a good set of tires in a couple months of driving. What the?

I found the car to have some strange issues, none that ever left me stranded, but weird never the less. I loved the car. I was proud to drive it and wish that certain someone wouldn't have wrecked it, it was a blast to drive on windy open roads. I loved my GTI!

1991 Volkswagen GTI 1.8L 8v

Summary:

Funnest Car With Four Wheels

Faults:

Here are the major things that have gone wrong with the car.

Transmission needed to be replaced at 150,000 Kilometers (My Fault)

Clutch replaced at 220,000 Kilometers.

Driver Side Bolster starting to ware at 240,000 Kilometers.

Alternator Braket Broke at 340,000 Kilometers.

General Comments:

This car is zippy, it likes to be driven, and by likes I mean it LOVES to be driven. Parts are cheap, the car is fun to work on, it's the funnest car I've ever owned, and if they made the MKII GTi again, I would by it without thinking. It was still running strong when it got totaled off, and I would still be driving it, but its time for a newer car.

With regular maintenance this car can run forever. Long live the 8v.

Yeah, he must have meant funniest, since there's no such word as "funnest".

'Most fun' me thinks.

1991 Volkswagen GTI 16v 2.0L 16v

Summary:

Worth modding

Faults:

The car has not have any problems yet.

I dumped $25,000 into mods at 60,000 kilometers and the car itself and the mods haven't had problems yet.

The tires get bald really quick due too the amounts of torque and tight turns I take on tracks.

The only reason I rebuilt the engine was because I was going too dump $15,000 in mods into it.

I replaced lots of parts on the car, so it won't let me down for a long time.

I rebuilt the engine with 5,000 dollars.

Modified the engine with $15,000.

The exterior and interior mods have about $4,000 into it.

General Comments:

The car is really quick and sticks on the road like glue.

The Recaro seats are awesome and they are very sporty and supportive.

I used a Porsche 944 front mounter inter cooler and put on a KKK k26 turbo on it.

If you are going too make a track car, the '90-'92 GTis are a very good choice.

1991 Volkswagen GTI 1.8 8v

Summary:

Truly a hot hatch-back

Faults:

The valve cover gasket began to leak and was replaced.

General Comments:

I love the performance, styling, and economy of this car.

It handles great, accelerates crisply, and rides wonderfully.

Plus, being a hatchback, I can fit a lot of stuff in the back with no problem.
