My check engine light comes one at least twice a month. My mechanic can't find a problem with the engine. The code only "bad oil" one time in three checks. I also had the window fall down problem.
Otherwise I like my car-I just want this problem fixed and VW to pay for them both!

Not meant to last a long time
It seems that Volkswagen had the car geared to break down right after it passed the 70,000 mile mark.
The car was surging when running at a constant speed. The throttle body was bad and had it replaced at a very hefty cost.
Three days after the throttle body had been changed, started having problems starting the car. If the car had been sitting for a few hours there are no problems, but if it hasn't it seems like the engine is flooded with gas. And it idles at 1600-1800 RPM. Going back to the dealership Monday to see what's wrong with it this time.
Getting rid of it as soon as it's fixed this time.
It was great the first three years and little by little things have started to go wrong.
Would not recommend this car or manufacturer to anyone. I'm not going back to them. Going back to Japanese cars.

This car has been an expensive maintenance nightmare
The check engine light began coming on withing the first 20,000 miles.
Repeated trips to the service department came to no solution.
At one point the service department even suggested that sometimes the check engine light comes on comes on when the gas is low or when the gas cap is on to loose or to tight. They reset the fault codes and told me to keep driving.
Following a 2,000 mile road trip the car was performing badly, so I took it back in. This time an $1,000.00 electrical/computer component had to be replaced.
Sorry, out or warranty.
Next, at about 25,000 miles, the tires began to wear badly. The service department blamed my local tire and lube store for airing up the tires too much. Not true. My local mechanic told me the struts were shot.
The right rear window began leaking (after warranty).
The left rear electric window quit working (after warranty).
The cruise control quit working (after warranty).
Recently, I had to jump start the car because I accidentally left on the dome light. I jump started it following owner's guide instructions. Immediately following the jump start, the car wouldn't run. I had to have it towed to service 100 miles away.
Finally, at approximately 52,000 miles, the a/c compressor quit working. The cost to repair...$1600.00. I appealed to a customer care representative. Their response, warranty out at 25,000.
This car was bought new with the main selling point being the dependability of VW's and the potential to go 200,000 to even 300,000 low maintenance miles.
It has been nothing, but trouble and high expense since I drove it off the dealer's lot.
The dealer and now Volkswagen, the company, take no responsibility, or offer any assistance. This, even though I have followed all maintenance schedules, have kept low mileage, and garage kept the car.
I will never own another Volkswagen product again.

Hey bud, it's too bad that you had bad luck with your vw. But I will have to say that not every vw is like that. Every car company in the world puts out lemons. Almost every state has lemon laws or something of the sort. You should have taken that avenue. German cars are the most dependable, well built cars on the road. Always has been and always will be. My father has owned nothing, but vw's since the late 60's early 70's and every single one of them had more than 300,000 miles, each car that is. I have had two, on my second one now, and I had absolutely nothing wrong WHAT-SO-EVER and my second one, I had to take in because my headlight bulb burned out, and it was brand new, so hey I got it under warranty for free. So after owning two vw's myself, the only thing I had go wrong with either of them was a cheap 3.00 light bulb. WOW, big deal. Too bad you had problems with yours, but you shouldn't say you'll never own another vw product again. You could regret it in the future. Much better than buying American or Japanese. Take care AT.
