Faults:

To start with the mass airflow meter has failed twice.

Major brake problems at 15000 miles had to replace rotor's, brake pads, and calipers.

Major hesitation if you do not use Chevron.

Radio volume control does not work.

Glove box hinge broke glove box falls off is opened.

Trunk lights do not work.

Tires needed replacement at 19000 miles!

General Comments:

The car if great to drive when it is not in the shop.

The car has great handling.

Faults:

Within 20K miles, the car started to vibrate and hum badly - dealer said it was typical of a new Jetta.

Chewed threw a front pair of tires in no time at all.

Sunroof visor jammed and won't close or slide open.

The hoodlatch broke OFF when trying to open the hood.

All the little things in the inside have gone haywire. Ash tray broke, cup holder is jammed, driver side sun visor won't stay up, keeps falling in my face.

Transmission is 'overburdened' feels as if it slips out of gear.

Burns oil. Paint scratches easily around door handles, even from fingernails!

General Comments:

Not worth the price we paid, we will never shop VW again.

The purple interior lighting made it worth while for a day or two.

Parts are extremely expensive. A simple battery is $125 bucks!

Back seat is TOO small. Forget about a carseat.

Faults:

>The sunroof liner clips broke, thus causing the liner to brake.

>Driver side Window system broke twice.

>Grease constantly exuding from bottom of doors.

>Electronic climate control switches constantly sticking.

>The Mass Air Flow Sensor needing to be replaced at 45000 miles, nothing is wrong with the sensor.

>Dealership diagnosed our Jetta as having a bad battery, replaced battery and car still dies. Returned the car 4 more times, they finally deducted it was in the electrical coil. Never refunded the $189.00 for the original assessment and battery.

>A outrageous oil change cost of $45.00.

>Ultimate upset, Volkswagen treating their cost for replacement cars parts as if they were Mercedes.

General Comments:

I feel the the Jetta has a tremendous amount of potential, but I've seen a lack of customer service from Volkswagen as well as the dealership in resolving the problems with my Jetta.

Faults:

I have replaced the rear shocks (at 35,000 miles). Quite expensive and time-consuming.

Wax constantly melts and dries on bottom of doors.

Glove box and cup holder have both broken and fallen off.

Front wheel bearing needed to be replaced. Volkswagon paid for only 1/2 of this service.

Seat fabric is cheap and allows for NO MISTAKES. Even water leaves a stain.

Car just is noisy and not that comfortable. Plastic interior makes creaky sounds.

General Comments:

I have (what they say is) paraffin wax dripping off of the passenger/driver doors on hot days. Must be wiped off with a cloth; never goes away! Quite unattractive.

Glove box door just broke and fell off one day after hardly ever being opened. Volkswagon would not pay for this.

Front wheel bearing became loose (or who knows!) causing a great deal of embarrassing noise when turning. Volkswagon agreed to pay for 1/2 of this EXPENSIVE service.

I agree that the car feels/seems to be put together with tape and rubberbands. It is a great looking car (which is why most everyone bought it in the first place!) but is not exceptionally luxurious. Dash board/front interior of car is SO LOUD and CREAKY! It seems that the plastic is going to crack at any moment.

Lastly, my "studio cloth" seats look terrible! Had I made the right decision to either go with leather or a more plush/textured fabric, I would not have the same problem. EVERYTHING stays on the seats, including water! You wipe the water away and you still have water stains. I drove my Nissan Sentra for nearly TEN years and had virtually NO STAINS.

VW Service at most places (I've moved around a bit) often gives you the attitude that they're doing you a favor because somehow you're privileged to even be driving a coveted VW. Whatever. My husband just bought a BMW, and i'll tell you, THAT is a car.
