1999 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0

Summary:

I would never recommend buying a VW

Faults:

Check Engine light has come on too many times to count, and requires a diagnosis fee every time to figure out why it's on.

Driver's side window has broken twice. The passenger side window has broken once.

Airbag light, ABS brake light, and others would come on at random due to malfunctioning.

Temperature gague has broken, so I had no idea how hot the engine was getting.

Oxygen sensor has now been replaced 3 times, and I am waiting for the 4th one to arrive at the dealership so that it can be replaced yet again.

Glove box latch has broken and every time I open it the door falls off.

The latch on the armrest has broken, so the things in my storage compartment fall out when I put the arm rest up.

The cup holder in the back seat is broken.

There were loose bolts in the drivers side axle, and I was told to be very careful while driving it until they could fix it, which took about 3 weeks to do.

General Comments:

The car does handle nicely, especially when driving fast on winding roads.

However, this car is not worth the headache, worry, or hassle.

Too many things have gone wrong on this car for it only being a few years old.

Dear 1999 owner nothing has changed. My wife & I have a 2001 Jetta VR6 and have had problems with bolts missing from the driver side axle, the broken window problem, new axle, and now a new trans.

What a great car, I will be going to a consumer protection group.

1999 Volkswagen Jetta VR6

Summary:

Good performance, terrible reliability

Faults:

After 2-yr warranty and about 23000 km:

- Sunroof broke while opening sliding roof panel ($190 to repair)

- springs fell out of passenger seat ($150)

- light in trunk goes on only occasionally

- window fell into door (negotiated free repair)

- center rear seatbelt jammed (this problem MAY have been corrected in 2001 model year) ($260 to replace)

- side mirror adjustment knob broke off ($140)

- computer engine sensor went on due to malfunction (free repair, but no guarantee it won't happen again, and no notice from the dealer that it could be faulty) (cost: one full day of driving for summer holiday)

General Comments:

The good: the car drives well and is comfortable inside

The bad: small things go wrong all the time - even though we drive far less than the average. Pity the person who drives this car regularly

The ugly: even small repairs are brutally expensive because parts are custom, and the car seems built to minimize access for repairs. For example, to replace a spring in a seat, they have to remove the entire seat!

1999 Volkswagen Jetta wolfsburg

Faults:

Problems with my Jetta:

Rear left window regulator, I replaced this part myself. But now the power window motor blew... dealer price $300!! I'm waiting for one from a junk yard.

Driver's side window. Regulator problem. I talk to VW of US, they're replacing them on '98's and newer.

Sunroof. Won't slide open, but will tilt.

Check engine light. Air control problem. Engine runs fine.

Front right speaker has an intermittent contact.

General Comments:

I just replace the brake pads for the 1st time at 70,000 miles!!

It's a great car, just kind of aggravating with these small problems. All of these things started to happen when my wife bought a Jeep Wrangler and I took her Jetta. I guess the car misses her!!

1999 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 2.8

Summary:

Big fat lemon

Faults:

The car wouldn't start when I wanted to test drive it. The salesman said somebody had left the door ajar and the battery had run flat. Car died again about 3 miles from dealership when test driving. Salesman had to walk back to dealership to get another car to jump start the Jetta.

Rear cup holder was broken. Dealership replaced FRONT cup holder.

Window fell down and would not come up again.

Car leaks goo on all 4 doors. Goo is right at where pants legs would touch when getting in and out of car.

Mass airflow sensor had to be replaced.

Turn signals don't work in very hot or very cold weather.

Car locks automatically when placing my infant into the car. Have to remember not to place my keys on the seat when strapping infant in.

Center seat belt jammed. Nobody used it.

EPC light comes on.

Check engine light comes on repeatedly.

Dealership is unable to fix turn signals or locking system.

Dealership does not even answer the phone. Voice messages are ignored.

General Comments:

Car looks nice, but is expensive and a pain in the rear to maintain.

You should have ran the other way when buying this car when it wouldn't start at the car dealership!

Who would buy *any* vehicle from anywhere if the car didn't want to start twice when it was being test driven???!!! Then you go on to say all the other problems meaning, you purchased it??
