Faults:

Glove Box

Numerous Check Engine lights

Interior paint is chipping

Sun Roof will not open.

Pretty much the same as everyone else above and the cost of repairs is very high.

One problem that has been repeated 3 times is the trunk lock. Replaced 2 times and doing this myself cost around $80 for parts. Basically, VW decided to design an electronic mechanism that uses a metal piece pressing against a plastic piece. You guessed right, the plastic piece continues to break and VW says that this is not covered even though I purchased this part from VW...twice.

General Comments:

Love the design and feel of the car, but I would never buy VW again. Purchased car based on quality and what I thought was a solid well made car. All VW needs to do is fix the flaws that are consistantly being reported and I'm sure their parts department could run a report on the most purchased parts over time. They would probably see "Glove box... we don't sell gloves... next item..."

Faults:

The glove box door was broken when I bought it, as well as the center arm rest lid. The oil dipstick broke when I was changing the spark plugs. Asides from that, I have had zero problems.

General Comments:

Car looks and performs great. I drove it from NY to FL, and it was a pleasure. I haven't had any of the issues others seem to have. No oil comsumption, electrical issues, ect...

Faults:

I've always wanted a Jetta and just a month ago my last car died and I had to purchase a new car fast. My budget was small. I went to the VW dealership and I bought a 2000 Jetta GLS: 81,000 miles. Now my budget is spread as thin as it could possibly be; I thought I was buying a reliable car that I wouldn't have to sink money into for while. It's only been a month since I purchased the car and it's been in the shop three times for several days each stay. I've only got a 30 day / 1,000 mile warranty. I've hit the 1,000 mile mark.

Parts replaced/repaired in just one month:

Front cup holder

Back ashtray

Glove Box Latch

Sun Roof Motor (twice)

Throttle Body.

In the process of attempting to fix my sun roof, they screwed up the computer making my lock control modules stop working...waiting for that to be fixed.

* My 6 CD changer is faulty and they refuse to fix it because the previous owner of the car had it installed; it is, however, a VW part.

Car has stalled, not started, and shaken violently.

The gears stick and/or don't hold.

I just paid my first $230 car payment and, uh, for what?

Faults:

The engine light has been on for past 75,000 miles.

I refuse to fix it for a mere $5000 bucks.

The Jetta sprung a spring under passenger seat.

The back seat and front seat cup holders both no longer work.

Has left me stranded at least 3 times for various engine problems, some under warranty and others not.

Very expensive to repair, never under 500 bucks each time. The brakes wear very quickly. The bumper popped off after driving it too close to a cement parking stopper. I love to drive the car when it runs.

The seats are very comfortable. The plastic interior strips away with regular use.

Will never buy another VW again.

General Comments:

I think the car runs great when it is not in the shop.

Faults:

I feel like this whole site is living my nightmare.

Mass air flow sensor the day I drove it off of the lot.

Glove box right hinge broken.

Front cup holder broken.

Back ashtray won't close.

Front window fell.

Sludge build up removal.

These are the only ones I can think of at the moment.

Now my check engine light is on and I'm waiting to see what my friendly Volkswagen Dealership has to say...

Not!

I'd like to jump over the counter and choke them with all their horrible excuses as to why their product sucks!
