Faults:

5 Coolant leaks due to faulty hoses... no joke, 5!

Replaced hoses twice and thermostat once.

Airbag Light on 3 times.

Cup holders jammed and broken 3 times (not due to excessive force)

Faulty Brake Switch.. causing EPC light to come on and car stuck in park.

Engine Workshop has came on twice. Had to take to VW and cost $100 everytime to run diagnostics on.

Front bumper has fell off too many times to remember.

General Comments:

This car is beautiful and drives beautifully as well.

However, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone because of all the problems I have had with it. Unless you have a ton of money to invest into it... which I unfortunetly don't.

Besides the problems I've had I love this car and will be sad to see it go... but it has got to go very soon.

I can no longer keep up with the maintenance.

I've put as much money in to this car as I've paid for it.

Faults:

Misc. Service resulted in anywhere between $200.00 and $900.00 each time I took it in.

Coolant tank leak.

Emissions and O2 problem: Major $1,000 charge.

Oil light came on at 127,000 miles although the car had oil... two days later, billows of smoke were coming out of the bottom of it.

General Comments:

Although I liked this car and loved it's quick pick-up and was fairly good with gas. A warning light and bell sounded once every 3-4 months without exception. The check engine light came on more times than I can count. I sunk a ton of money into it and hoped it would last, but alas. This car is dead at 127,000. I was certain a VW would run to 200,000.

Faults:

During the test drive, something broke!

First, the spring in the center console fell out. It cannot close and remain that way. This seemed like a minor thing, so I blew it off and kept the car.

As soon as I had the car back to my home town, I decided to get an extra oil change just in case. The timing belt was almost rotted through and had to be fixed.

Then the glove compartment box hinge broke, so that it falls out whenever you open it.

The car drove beautifully, so I kept it. Then the acceleration began to feel jerky. Shifting between gears is less smooth than before. Decelerating is becoming jerkier as well.

At around 102000 miles. smoke was blowing out of the engine. Apparently the freon decided to blow out.

There is some grinding noise that I no idea where it comes from, somewhere near the left front tire while turning. I don't have a VW dealer until the next large city which is over 60 miles away. And I live in a town of 250,000. You'd think there'd be a dealer.

I went in to have my tires balanced because after 40 mph, the steering wheel jerked back and forth. Then the local shop said they could not balance the tires because VW makes their cars so that you have to return them to the dealership. Something about the counterweights being specific only for VW.

Also, the brake lights are not functioning. Again, I have to return to the dealer for a recall.

When I first bought the car, I could get between 300 and 350 miles on a full tank. Now I only get 250 and I have no idea why.

General Comments:

Although this is a beautiful car in theory, the problems I am having with it are frustrating and expensive. I'm a college student, and although I work, I don't have the time and money to run 60 miles away for every minor problem.
