Faults:

The Side mirror Knob broke while I was cleaning the interior because I brushed it too hard.

General Comments:

This Car is very reliable.

It handles curves very well.

It Allows me to get places quickly, but safely.

It has an awesome "get-up-and-go" engine, and great brakes.

Its collision ratings are excellent.

The interior was in excellent condition when I purchased it and still is.

Its easy to maintain.

It has a great Monsoon sound system. (comes stock with the car)

It has lots of trunk space and allows you to fold the back seats down if needed.

It's an excellent car for a cheap price.

I would recommend that everyone drive a Volkswagen.

Faults:

Mass airflow sensor replaced at 5,000 miles. This is a common problem, but the dealer won't tell you that. They'll charge you $500 to fix it even if you're still under warranty.

Front spoiler--underneath bumper--is a flimsy piece of (ahem) plastic that was designed very poorly. It's too close to the ground so even small bumps in the road knock it around. It is held on by plastic connectors, so that if they break, you need an entirely new front spoiler at a cost of $450! I've replaced it once, it's falling off again, but I'm going to let it drag.

My rear brakes died at 30,000 miles. I replaced the brakes elsewhere.

The hinges on the glove box are flimsy pieces of (ahem) plastic. They broke without any effort from me.

The cup holders are poorly designed and can't hold drinks larger than a "medium."

The dealer gouges you on parts and labor, but that's the only place you can get most repairs done.

General Comments:

The car is nice when you get it, but quickly starts to fall apart.

The engine is quite powerful and (aside from the mass airflow sensor) has been reliable.

Faults:

Glow plug switch malfunctioned on the last day of 2 year warranty. Fortunately it only required a computer reset.

Right rear taillight went out, but was easily fixed during my 12 month service. Unfortunately it went out again only after a few months. I found out when I a cop pulled me over for that reason alone.

The performance of the turbo seems to be dwindling as my car, nearly 4 years old now, seems to have difficulty accelerating quickly.

General Comments:

I have heard horror stories about the reliability, or lack thereof, of Jettas. I must be fortunate because my car has experienced none of the problems associated with the electrical system, windows, and general quality of workmanship.

The interior is incredibly well-designed, everything is exactly where it should be, and the quality is on par with that of BMW, known for their incredibly luxurious and well-appointed interiors.

I have no regrets with my car. The fuel economy is excellent, sometimes getting about 500 miles per tank, and even nearly 650 on a few occasions. I still think it's sexy and sleek and will definitely miss it when I hand it back in (I leased) next month. Again, I must be lucky not to have had some of the more common problems, but considering that I've taken my Jetta camping and on back roads where it probably shouldn't have gone, it still impresses me.
