2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0
Summary:
Keep on top of minor repairs!
Faults:
O2 sensor has to be replaced on regular basis.
Airbag light comes on at 50,000km.
Door leaks grease.
Driver side window did fall in.
Trunk latch broke.
Light behind climate control had to be replaced.
General Comments:
The solution for most of these problems is to do it yourself. For anyone that has problems with the windows falling in; you can buy the kit for $40.00. They give you 4 brackets (2 for each door) and your windows will never fall in again. You can then go and drive without worry!
The light for the A/C can be replaced by simply taking a pair of pliers and pulling on the middle knob which will unveil the tiny light you can purchase for $1.73.
I love this car and plan to enter it in car shows. My best advise (only being 17) is that you find a repair manual to do it yourself. This saves you time and money, and makes you more aware of how your cars works.
I've put a lot of time into it and got so much out of it. People have to be gentle, and take of the car.
Don't touch the fuse box, and try to avoid powering up the radio without your keys in the ignition because it will not turn off when you leave the car.
Not replacing the O2 sensor will result in 50 less km per tank of gas.
If you love it - it will love you. After all VW did make the bug; where is the love?
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I love my Jetta too! Mine is a 1991 GLD 1.6 non turbo diesel. It has done 152,000 trouble free miles. One must keep on top of the servicing to ensure hastle free motoring. I am now considering replacing it with a Vento 1.9 Diesel. However, I don't want to part with my baby! All I say is VW forever.
